Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Sea Spirit

"What do you mean, a talk?''

"Your father isn't your father."

"So… what you're saying is that dad isn't my biological father?" Em asked.

"Yes, it's about time you know that" Mom sighed.

"So who was he?"

"At first, I thought he was a normal man, we fell in love but then one day, before he was going to set off on a mission, he confessed to me that he was a Sea Guardian. However, since then, he has disapeared without a trace."

"So what you're saying is he abandoned us?"

"I'm not sure, sweetie."

"So what's a sea guardian's job?" Em inquired curiously.

"To protect the sea from evil forces."

"But, like how?"

"I'm afraid I don't know sweetie, maybe you can ask The Sea Spirit."

"But how do I get there?"

"Your father gave me this and told me to give it to you when the time comes ." She held a beautiful pearly white orb out. "You have to smash it."

So Em did. Suddenly, a bubble appeared, engulfing Em in a few moments. Then, it flew down into the deep stormy blue surface that was the sea. The last thing Em saw before she was submerged was her mother, waving goodbye.

Em was amazed at the many plants and creatures that she saw. There was fish of every color and she wished she could reach out to touch them but she couldn't because of the bubble. When she started to get bored, she finally reached the most beautiful part of the sea she had ever seen. There was coral in every direction and dolphins playfully swam around her. Giant turtles surfed on the currents with fish hitching rides on their backs. Em landed in a small room and the bubble around her burst. She took a good look around it. There were mother-of-pearl orbs that glistened like moonlight, colorful shells lined the walls in every shade imaginable. A cluster of bubbles formed and Em could make out a faint silhouette of a woman with long pearl-adorned braids.

"Hello, child." Said a voice in her head, it was soft like a whisper. "I am Tempest, The Sea Spirit but of course you already know that. Welcome to my home."

Em stared blankly at her.

"Well,…"The Sea Spirit said, a hint of amusement in her voice "I am guessing you don't.

Here's what I can tell you. Your dad was a Guardian of the Sea. He worked in the Artic part of the ocean."

"Can you tell me what happened to him, mom said he went on a mission and never returned." Em asked

"He sacrificed himself to save his fellows I'm afraid. Since you are the daughter of a guardian, you have the choice to become a guardian of the Earth, Sea or Sky. You will also have the option of being a moster hunter, allowing you to travel through all realms. Now, which do you choose?"

"What if I have no intention of being one?" Em said

"You have to."

"Then I choose to have the honor of being a Sea Guardian."

"Well chosen my dear, I will send you back to your mother and I assume she will inform you of your duties as a guardian."

And so with a snap of Tempest fingers, a bubble engulfed Em again, ready to take her back to her mother.
