Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Academy

When Em reached land, her mom appeared, confused:

"What are you doing here, shouldn't you be at the academy?"

"What academy?" Em asked, totally bewildered.

"Oh, right, I forgot to tell you about the academy." Mom slapped her hand against her face, exasperated with herself. "Before you become a guardian, you have to attend an academy to train for a few months at least before you can go on a mission."

"I'll drive you there." Mom decided.

"You'll what?" Em said, astonished "But isn't it like, under the sea or something?"

"No, It is in a building in NYC" Mom explained.

And so, they packed up their things and set off. It took a few hours to get there but Em felt it was days. The anticipation was killing her. Suddenly the car stopped in front of an abandoned building.

"Is this the academy?" Em asked, incredulously.

"Yes but don't be too surprised, sweetie." Mom said "This is only the outside, it's a spell."

"So we just go in?" Em inquired

"Yes."

Taking a deep breath, Em stepped inside, waving to her mom.

"Ack!" Em screamed, walking through the door felt like ice and when she arrived on the other side of the barrier, she shivered. After that, she had a good look around the hall. "Students" milled around, some talking, some burying their face in a book and some practicing their powers. Em went up to the table that said "information". The clerk looked up. She was a middle-aged woman with streaks of gray running through her ashy brown hair. She smiled at Em:

"What can I help you with, deary?"

"Um… can you tell me what I'm supossed to do?"

"A new one aren't you, well, you're just in time. Go to class 4B, there you'll find the orientation to life here.

As she was walking along the hall to her class, someone purposely bumped into to her. She fell and hit against the floor, hard. Just as she was about to yell at that person, her words stuck in her throat.
