Myles kept his eyes on the monster. The creature looked wrong now. No laughter or mockery anymore. The arrogance that had filled his presence from the start was gone, replaced by visible strain.
Myles could hear the sound of his breathing becoming heavier. The purple mist clung to his body, but it looked flickering and unevenly instead of flowing smoothly, as if something inside it was resisting the power.
For the first time, the monster looked threatened.
A sharp surge of resolve and bravery cut through Myles' fear at that instant. He saw a change.
"We can do this!" Myles shouted, his voice cutting through the din and the fading echoes of the monster's earlier roar. "Attack with me!"
His words rang out across the battlefield.
Nadine, Victor, George, Daniel, Clara, and Kade all heard it. Even Ryan who just arrived also heard it and he also ran toward them.
