Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Hearing this, the soft girl immediately looked at Jessica Williams pitifully: 'sister, can you go with me to save my boyfriend? I'll give you money. My family is very rich."

Jessica Williams smiled, leaned down slightly, and spoke in a gentle tone:

"Piss off."

Jessica Williams was much more blunt than Emma Smith: 'the Evil Seeds attacked the girls" dorms first. I survived by fighting them hand-to-hand. Emma Smith could have run, but she chose to come out and save me. And you? You survived because Hannah Miller's best friend sacrificed her life. Instead of cherishing that, you want to drag others down as stepping stones?"

Hannah Miller suddenly sneered and added: "Besides, if you and your boyfriend are so in love, why didn't he come to save you when the girls" dorm was being ransacked?"

The petite girl, having been despised by everyone in turn, immediately reddened around the eyes.

Emma Smith softened her tone: "Alright, look, the guys over there are all muscle-bound jocks. They'll definitely handle a few Evil Seeds easily. Let's move, quickly."

She wasn't being kind-hearted; she was just being pragmatic. Seeing that the girl was about to cry from the scolding, Emma Smith worried that out of humiliation and anger, she might run off to the boys" dorm alone. If she got bitten, she would inevitably tell Liam Thomas that they were planning to hide in the library.

The petite girl had no choice but to follow the team.

They passed through the bicycle shed and arrived at the library entrance. The door wasn't locked. They pushed it open and entered; inside, it was pitch black.

Hannah Miller and Emma Smith took the lead, with the others following behind as they cautiously ascended the stairs.

Arriving at the largest reading room, Emma Smith pushed open the door.

In one corner of the reading room, a faint light was flickering.

Emma Smith froze for a moment, signaling everyone to wait at the door. She walked forward a few steps and looked toward the innermost bookshelf. About twenty people were leaning against the base of the shelves, huddled around an alcohol burner emitting an orange-red glow, seeking warmth in each other's company within the darkness.

Seeing the intruders, the group was terrified, staring at Emma Smith with vigilance.

Seeing that these people had no wounds and showed no aggression, Emma Smith breathed a heavy sigh of relief.

In the candlelight, a man and a woman saw Emma Smith and their expressions instantly turned to surprise and joy. They rushed over quickly.

"Emma Smith! That's great, you're still alive!"

Two figures approached her in the dim light. As their features became clear, a wave of relief washed over Emma Smith.

"Alice Brown! Lucas Wilson!" Emma Smith tightly grasped their hands.

Alice Brown was her best friend in the dorm.

Lucas Wilson was the class president, and they had always been on good terms.

After a night of perilous adventure, she had assumed they had all turned into Evil Seeds. She never expected to see familiar faces still standing.

Alice Brown was wearing a black sports jacket. Lucas Wilson's black short-sleeved shirt was torn at the shoulder, revealing solid muscle underneath.

Alice Brown hugged Emma Smith tightly: 'thank god you're okay! I thought I'd never see you again!"

Hannah Miller led the other girls in. Seeing so many survivors, she was overjoyed.

There was strength in numbers. With so many people, their hope for survival increased significantly.

Lucas Wilson also warmly welcomed Hannah Miller and her group.

Alice Brown took Emma Smith's hand and found a corner for them to sit.

They had barely sat down when Emma Smith suddenly heard a faint scoff from not far away: 'tsk."

She looked in the direction of the sound and saw several rather tall, strong-looking boys sitting in a circle, whispering amongst themselves.

Emma Smith quietly edged closer, wanting to hear what they were saying.

"Damn it, so many more people, and they're all girls. The food reserves in this building were already low."

"Just us few guys having to protect so much dead weight... it's annoying as hell."

"I really don't get why Lucas Wilson let these women join. If you ask me, keeping a few pretty ones for entertainment is enough. The rest should just be kicked out. Saves wasting food on people who contribute nothing."

"Exactly. This lot just screams endlessly when something happens. They can't help with anything."

The boys kept their voices low; aside from Emma Smith, no one else was paying attention to them.

Emma Smith remained impassive and said nothing.

Everyone's nerves were taut right now. Picking a fight at this critical juncture would be suicidal.

Emma Smith sat with Alice Brown, Lucas Wilson, and Jessica Williams.

Everyone Jessica Williams knew had died in that battle. Alice Brown felt sympathetic and treated Jessica Williams as one of their own.

When the virus broke out, Lucas Wilson and Alice Brown were in PE class.

A massive wave of zombies had rushed in from the playground gate and started biting people. Many didn't react in time, some were bitten to death, others were turned.

Lucas Wilson was the first to discover the Evil Seeds" weakness and was the first to escape. Alice Brown, being a fast runner, quickly evaded the Evil Seeds" pursuit and caught up with Lucas Wilson.

They had intended to hide in the supermarket storage room, but they hadn't expected the Evil Seeds to be intelligent enough to lay an ambush there. That was where Lucas Wilson's shirt had been torn.

"I saw it with my own eyes." Alice Brown said, her voice low and somber: "Everyone in our class, except for me and Lucas Wilson... they were all bitten."

Including the other sisters in their dorm.

Just yesterday morning they were laughing and talking together. Today, this was the reality.

A while later, Lucas Wilson brought some people back with two boxes of instant noodles, handing one pack to each person.
