Having taken our seats, the homeroom teacher for class one took his position at the front of the class.
"Hello and welcome again to this school, I'm Mr Estrada and you're going to have me as your class one homeroom teacher."
Mr Estrada was a proper man and was exceedingly formal in his manner of speaking. "In reference to class one, each one of you were assigned to this class
depending on your ratings given by the school, whilst you were assigned to classes based on this, past this point your class's standing will not change, you are the best of the best in this school and that is how it will stay until you graduate."
This being made clear helped us to dissuade concerns that we would have to compete with other classes for our position.
"Despite this, if you produce unsatisfactory results depending on your position, you will be censured accordingly, this won't involve expulsion, but detentions or reprimands are among the punishments"
By the sounds of it, time at this school wasn't exactly going to be easy, but it was not grueling or tortuous at the very least. Regardless of this fact I really didn't want to have to try that hard here, but I guess I'm going to have to keep a level of achievement going. Randan looked over to me from his seat and I met his eyes, they looked pretty dead. In between us were two students, some guy who looked pretty average, and this girl with lilac hair sitting directly next to
me on my left. No introductions had been made yet so I hadn't a damn clue who anyone was, but I felt that guy's name was gonna be something meek.
The homeroom period for today had been extended to an hour so students would be able to introduce themselves to classmates and get to know each other better. Mr Estrada said we should begin with introductions, and told us to at least tell the person next to us or on either side of us our name.
The dude to the right of me introduced himself first to me, turning to look at me he cleared his throat first to make his presence known.
"Hey there white hair, my name's George, George Trenton, what's yours bud?" I had heard of this guy's family before, they were relatively unimportant to mine.
"My name's Daniel Barrington, yeah my brothers the Student Council Secretary"
"Oh I thought he mighta been when I heard your last name, that's pretty cool though, having your brother in that position"
"It's definitely something, that's for sure"
With that George seemed satisfied, and ended our conversation right there, turning to the person next to him with much more real interest than with me..
After the abrupt end to our conversation I sat there for a bit, I had no intentions of starting a conversation with anyone today, too much of a bother to be frank. I just finished that thought when the lilac hair girl next to me looked over in my direction, I decided I might as well do the same, and subsequently looked in the complete opposite direction
to which she was sitting.
"Really?" She said, clearly irritated.
"Yeah I guess so"
I decided to look at her now, all I could really think was one, she's really very..pretty? Two, she looks sharp.
"You have silver hair.." The girl said, not exactly sure why though..
"Yeah, you have lilac hair" I responded with this absolute banger comeback. For some reason though she seemed quite surprised I had said that.
"You actually got the colour right!" She exclaimed, not loudly though. "No one ever gets the colour right.." She seemed disappointed in this fact.
"Guess I got good eyes then"
"I suppose they are a nice colour" Her saying this so bluntly genuinely flustered me, if only for a moment. Can't believe this girl was saying stuff like this and she didn't even know my name.. Inept would probably
be the word to call her here, socially inept, because there was no damn way she was shy.
"A-Anyway, what's your name?" I wanted to end that quickly.
"Sakurako Egawa, I intend to join the chess club and be the top of the class" Sakurako said this in such a manner that I had no doubts she would be top of the class, no, the year come the end.
"I see, I'm Daniel Barrington, I'm gonna join the football team and the dueling club"
"Oh, no academic goals I see, for the Secretary's brother that's rather disappointing" Yeah I won't lie, wasn't expecting to be given an insult this early in the morning by a complete stranger.
"Yeah well, I don't have any interest in that sector right now to be honest"
"How uninspiring" Sakurako Egawa was a rather prickly person it seemed.
"Bet I could beat you if I really tried" I mused, not really anticipating I had said this aloud.
"I'd like to see you try, Barrington"
"Oh, is that an official challenge?" I really wanted either me or her to refuse this.
"Whenever you want, just tell me the time" Thank GOD she had let me choose if this was going to happen, with that I could just never do it.
"Maybe I'll do that.. At some point.."
At that lacklustre response she snickered a little bit.
For the rest of the hour I sat at my desk doing nothing until old boy Randan decided to rip me from my comfort and introduce me to some of the people he had met.
"Daniel, these are some people that I think we'll get along with"
"Hey I'm Oliver Smit" I responded "Hey" to him, assuming Randan had already told them my name.
"Holly Zenzon, how's it hanging"
"Santhush Loren" I knew that name from somewhere..
"He went to our middle school, different classes though so this is the first I have spoken to him, I heard you'd spoken with him once though"
"Yeah the name definitely rung a bell" I was already tired at this point, I wasn't going to judge these people right now but honestly they seemed to be fine I guess.
"My name's Macsen Laurant"
"I see"
With introductions over we continued to talk for the rest of the time, from what I could gather, Macsen was an incredible athlete but possibly lacking intelligence, Holly might've been completely unacademic, Oliver
seemed incredibly clever, and Santhush was hard to get a proper read on to be frank.
Randan, being the social butterfly that he was, had spoken to literally everyone in the damn class. I, on the other hand, had only entertained independent conversation with Sakurako Egawa and that was less than
amicable, so one could, perchance, say I was finished in the social department here.
One hour had ticked over, the teacher called us to return to our seats, which I happily did, meeting the gaze of Egawa again as I sat down. I suppose I could say that I could make another observation about her,
albeit rather objective. That said, she was extremely pretty. Still really short though, like she was probably 20 centimetres shorter than me.
