Chapter 3 - Backstory: Chapter 3

Hearing a knock on his door, Gu opened it to see Jing, Chu, and Ling in the back. "What now? Is there a meteor that crashed?"

Chuckling at the joke, Chu pulled Gu towards the group and began to walk, "We found something incredible, and we showed it to Ling, and she told us to show you."

Looking at Ling, who was avoiding eye contact, "If it interests the great Chu, then I am game, haha."

Patting Gu on the back, Chu laughed with him, "That is the spirit!"

"You are gonna love this," spoke Jing confidently as she put an arm around them both.

Chu's cheeks warmed up, while Gu was just having a bit of a Deja vu moment, looking at the trail, it seemed familiar. "Let me guess, it is an abandoned cabin in the middle of the woods," said Gu jokingly.

Chu and Jing, as well as Ling's mouth, went agape. "What, how did you guess it so perfectly?" asked Chu as he even stopped moving for a bit.

A weird feeling began to permeate Gu's being as he reluctantly followed them, looking at how familiar this trail was, exactly like in the...dream. His limbs were feeling a bit cold as they walked closer.

Ling walked close behind Gu and noticed how weird Gu was acting, but kept quiet. "This is gonna be awesome!" said Chu as they reached the same place in the dream.

Opening the door like they own the place, Gu stopped at the doorway as Ling bumped into his back, "Ow, you...what is wrong?" asked Ling softly into Gu's ear.

Shivering a bit from the warm breath, Gu cleared his throat and walked inside reluctantly. Feeling such a vivid memory from his brain was making him question reality, seeing Chu open the staircase to the metal door.

Arriving at the room, the grave was the same, so was the tombstone, but it was in readable letters. "Rest in peace, Enuch Jing Yu," clarified Gu as a biting feeling began to gnaw at his heart.

"Oh, that is what it says?" said Chu as he rubbed his finger across the tombstone, reeling back in a bit of pain as his finger was sliced open bigger this time. Seeing this, Jing bandaged him up as Ling and Gu watched.

Before they knew it, the metal door closed shut behind them violently. Ling, being the closest, tried to pry it open, but to no avail. "It...is shut hard," said Ling as she panted heavily against the wall.

Chu rolled up his sleeves and tried to, but to no avail, "Damn, the f*ck is this?" Suddenly, the air went cold, as the grave began to shake. Jing, running towards where Ling and Chu were. Gu, however, was on the right side of the wall, feeling the symbols on the wall as he watched silently.

A coffin, similar to old Chinese coffins for officials, was made with gold and red lines surrounding it like a seal. Two talismans on both ends of the coffin begin to light up and become ash. Suddenly, they all see the coffin begin to shake violently.

Something was trying to get out, but the red lines were making it hard, so they all watched in silence as the lid kept opening and shutting for two minutes, then the red lines snapped, shooting the lid across the floor.

Smoke began to flow out of the opening of the coffin, floating up slowly onto his feet. It was a Jiangshi in Enuch clothing, a decayed face with two large fangs. Holding out two hands stiffly with dark claws for nails.

Letting out a growl of hunger, the group shivered in horror. Chu, being the man he is, put both Ling and Jing behind him. "D-D-D-D-Don't w-w-w-worry, I...will protect you two."

Feeling how scared he was, Jing and Ling didn't get any comfort from those words, as they stared at the Jiangshi. Slowly floating out of the coffin onto the ground, he looked at all of them slowly.

Licking his fangs, he landed on Jing and began to hop towards her. Chu, seeing this, gritted his teeth and fear, rushing towards him and launching the strongest punch he could manage, only to break his hand easily. "AHH!"

Not flinching, the Jiangshi's lifeless eyes landed on Chu, making Chu freeze in place as he began to release urine down his pants. Growling, the Jiangshi was about to grab Chu's shoulder, but Gu tackled him out of the way.

Grabbing onto Gu instead, Chu scrambled back towards the two girls as he watched Gu's helpless body being held up by the Jiangshi. Slowly, the door opened, and without a second chance, Chu grabbed both of the girls and ran out, sprinting. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" yelled Jing and Ling at the same time as they watched the Jiangshi begin to feed on Gu.

Struggling against Chu to no avail, they began to cry, gritting their teeth. He ran out of the cabin and dropped them both softly on the grass, breathing heavily. They both stare at Chu in anger and horror at what he just did, abandoning a childhood friend...

In the room, the Jiangshi was feeding on Gu slowly, feeling his life force and blood drain away as the Jiangshi's face began to fill up. The decayed face began to take a little shape. Gu, however, passed out from the pain and silent screams.

Remembering the betrayal, even if he understood the reason, he could not erase such hatred. Even if he hated that they left him, he couldn't blame them; he would have done the same thing.

Softly speak, "I am sorry, Grandmama, I can't help you make mooncakes for your birthday anymore, I am gonna leave you all alone in this world...Grandmama."

Grandmama was sewing one of Gu's pants that was torn and suddenly pricked her finger; she had never pricked her finger before, in these years of sewing. Feeling a haunting feeling hit her soul, she began to breathe heavily.

"What...did, something happen to Gu?!" said Grandmama as she saw the family picture crack slightly, separating Gu and the family. Her eyes widened in horror and fear as she began to remember how bad his nightmare was. "No, No, No, No! I can't believe it has started?!"

Rushing out of the house as fast as an old lady can, she took out her old Taoist compass, the compass began to spin wildly until it stopped, and pointed at the forest. Running as fast as she could, she didn't care about her attire. Reaching the clearing in front of the cabin, she saw Ling, Jing, and Chu panting as the two girls were sobbing uncontrollably.

Not seeing Gu, her heart tightened in horror and fear, and she grabbed Chu's shoulder violently. She yelled, "Where is Gu?!"

Looking into Chu's horrified eyes as he pointed to the cabin that was emitting black smoke, she threw him away and ran inside without a second thought. She took out a wooden peach sword from her waist and rushed down the stairs.

Stopping at the entrance of the room, her blood ran cold, seeing the Jiangshi feed on Gu's body, which was almost two-thirds empty...
