Chapter 1 - Backstory: Chapter 1

"Stop being a scaredy cat and follow me," said a young girl, dragging an unkept boy behind her.

The boy was plain-looking, with yellow eyes and long black hair that was tied in a ponytail. The girl was cute, with adorable blue eyes and long blonde hair. "Stop complaining and come on, we found something amazing over here!"

Turning his head, the boy looked over his shoulder and saw his friend, a boy that was taller than him by 6 inches. "Ling Chu, why do I have a feeling you planned this?"

Ling Chu, walking beside them both, smirked. "Stop being a buzzkill, just follow us willingly, you will not regret it, Yang Gu."

The three made their way along a wooden path, barely used, as the ground was filled with lush greenery. "Okay, fine, stop pulling me, Chang Jing, I will walk."

A bright smile bloomed on her face as she let Yang Gu walk on his own. Glancing at her smile, Chu gulped a bit as his face heated up just a bit. Gu began to match their pace, being the shortest of the group, he was a bit winded walking so far.

Patting his back with a smirk, Chu mocked, "Haha, you need to go outside more, you are winded just from walking?"

Glancing at Chu's mocking face, Gu sighed and spoke as he walked, "I would never have gone outside if it weren't for you..." glaring daggers at Jing.

Putting her hands up innocently, "I didn't do anything."

"You stood outside my door for two hours. What do you mean it was nothing?"

Chuckling sheepishly, Jing added, "Well, I am a very patient person."

Shaking his head in amusement, Chu grabbed both of their shoulders, "Enough talking, we are here." Looking towards a clearing, stood an abandoned cabin, with a typical don't come inside here, please vibe.

Chu and Jing walked inside like they owned the place, but Gu noticed something off: silence. Opening the cabin door as if they owned the place, Gu looked around the dilapidated cabin, books everywhere, dusty, crusty mold all over the walls, cobwebs in the corners.

"This would make a perfect haunted house," commented Chu as he pressed a button behind a book on the bookshelf.

To Gu's astonishment, a stairwell opened up, leading to a dungeon of some sort. "There it is, our secret base," said Jing as she walked past them both and down the stairs.

Sighing heavily, they both followed her in. Down the stairs led to a hallway, to a black metal door. "Bingo," said Chu as he helped Jing open the metal door, creaking loudly with rust and the silence in the woods.

"Come on, no time like the present, right?" said Jing as she and Chu walked inside. Gu finally let his guard down and walked inside. What could go wrong, right?

As the trio entered the room, Chu took out a lighter and lit the candles on the wall. Making the room more visible, looking around curiously, Gu noticed how there were symbols all around the room.

In the back of the room, there was a grave. While the symbols were cool, Gu watched as both of them walked towards the grave. Leaning on the wall and just enjoying the moment. Touching the grave, it looked like a typical Chinese grave, but very old.

"What do these say?" asked Chu, looking at Gu for an answer.

Walking towards the tombstone, Gu stared at the tombstone for a while, "I can't read it, this is an old language that was forgotten."

Hearing this, both of their eyes widen, "So, we just have to guess?"

Shaking his head, Gu said, "Looking at the way this grave is built, and the way the tombstone is made, it must be before any Dynasty."

Both of their mouths open wide, capable of swallowing a whole orange. Closing them slowly, Chu asked as he ran his finger against the tombstone, "If we sell this, you think we will get a lot of money, ow-"

Jing, being the precious thing she is, grabbed Chu's finger and saw that it was a small cut, but bleeding a bit. Feeling a little warm in his chest, Chu gulped and confirmed, "I am fine, just a cut, I am a man!"

Taking out a small bandage, Jing placed it on Chu's finger, not noticing how Chu looked at her. Gu, however, looked at the blood dripping down the tombstone, eventually getting sucked up into the grave.

Narrowing his eyes, Gu slowly felt something was wrong...

"Guys, I think we should go," commented Gu, backing up a bit, feeling off.

Seeing how scared Gu was, Chu reluctantly let go of Jing's touch and walked up to Gu, patting his back slowly. "Don't worry, scaredy cat, I am here, haha!"

With his laugh, a sudden silence permeated the room as something began to awaken. Turning his head slowly, Chu looked at Jing, who was backing up towards them quickly. The trio watched as the grave began to slowly rise up, the coffin shooting up and then, landing horizontally.

Smoke came out of the coffin, it was not even a coffin, more like a tightly wrapped tree with paper talismans and a red line holding it together. "Guys...I think we have to go, now!" yelled Gu as they all three bolted towards the door, suddenly.

The door closed in a slam, freezing in place, they all turned around, and their eyes widened to saucers...
