Chapter 6 - Chapter 6. The First Time the Spirit Fought Back

That girl shook her head. "I don't know. She was just playing on her phone normally, then suddenly her whole body started shaking and she dropped it. With a hit that hard, Emily probably broke her nose."

Elowen, who had been buried in her book, lifted her head when she heard that. A spark suddenly flashed through her mind, and the corner of her lips curved upward before she could stop herself.

Could it be… that mysterious person was venting his anger on her behalf?

Although it was only a guess, it had happened far too many times. The coincidences were so frequent that Elowen could no longer force herself not to believe it. If that kind person really was a ghost, then it explained why she had never seen anyone bring her food.

But the fleeting joy vanished at once, and her face suddenly drained of all color. If he was a ghost, then did that mean he had seen Lucien humiliating her?

Just the thought that the only friend who cared about her might feel disgust toward her made Elowen tremble all over. She felt tainted, no longer pure, and unworthy of being friends with that ghost.

The spirit, who had just scared the bullying girls into terrified submission, noticed that Elowen was shaking uncontrollably. Worried, he circled her anxiously, trying to figure out what had happened, but nothing made sense to him.

From his point of view, her lips had turned completely pale.

"What is wrong with this girl? Could someone have bullied her again?"

At this moment, the spirit was so anxious that he almost wanted to tear his hair out. By accident, his hand lightly brushed against Elowen's. Instantly, she felt a cool breeze against her skin, and the chaos in her mind quickly settled.

She let out a soft breath and thought to herself that if the ghost truly despised her, he would not have helped her so many times. Maybe… he was feeling heartache for her?

With that thought, Elowen gradually calmed down.

Soon after, the teacher walked into the classroom. Elowen focused on the lecture. The graduation exam was her only way out of suffering, and she could not afford to be careless.

When the spirit saw that Elowen had returned to her normal state, he stopped panicking as well. He began drifting around the school to observe what was going on.

At the moment, he discovered something else interesting. As long as he stayed within ten meters of Elowen, he could freely apply a small amount of force to solid objects. This clearly showed that his strength had increased.

Perhaps before long, he would become like other ghosts who possessed supernatural abilities to control objects or exert strong influence on human bodies.

The spirit drifted about and eventually stopped in the security office. Inside, the guards were scrolling through their phones, leaning their heads together as they discussed the news.

"Hey, look at this. The chairman of Crowe Group was in a serious car accident. He is still in a coma and has not woken up yet. Tsk, he is only in his thirties. What bad luck."

"That is such a shame. If he dies, who will inherit his massive fortune?"

As soon as the spirit heard someone mention Crowe Group, he flew over to take a look. On the screen, the news clearly showed that the chairman of Crowe Group, Adrian Crowe, was in a deep coma after a horrific highway accident.

The spirit was stunned. So he was only in a coma, not dead.

Then why was he in this state as a spirit?

Could it be that his spirit had left his body, causing his physical body to remain unconscious and unable to wake?

Three months earlier, when Adrian had been on his way to visit his grandfather's grave, his car collided with a container truck, lost control, and crashed into a utility pole. When he regained awareness, he found himself beside Elowen.

He had thought he was dead. Who would have guessed that he was still alive? If that was the case, he had to find a way to get to the hospital and return to his body.

After being unconscious for so long, those cunning old shareholders and relatives were surely already stirring, eager to hollow out his assets.

But how was he supposed to get to the hospital when he could not move too far away from Elowen?

Adrian grew so anxious that he flew circles around the security office. In the end, feeling defeated, he drifted back toward the classroom to find Elowen.

The moment he left, the old security guard shivered and said, "Why do I feel so cold when I did not even turn on the air conditioner? It is already noon."

However, when Adrian returned to the classroom, Elowen was nowhere to be seen. It was recess, so had she gone to the restroom?

Adrian immediately flew toward the school bathrooms, but she was not there either. He began searching everywhere, a sudden sense of unease rising in his chest.

Little Elowen had always been a well behaved, diligent student. During recess she would normally stay in her seat and study. There was no way she would be running around aimlessly.

If she had gone out to have fun, he would not have worried. What he feared was that she had been dragged somewhere by other students and bullied.

Adrian's bad feeling proved to be right. When he flew near the sports equipment area, he heard a group of students laughing and chatting, and their conversation was clearly about Elowen.

"You know what? Vanessa and her little followers dragged Elowen to the gym to talk in private. I think they want to get rid of that bitch. I heard Vanessa likes the new hot guy Lucien who just transferred here, but Elowen stole his attention. She's furious and wants to teach her a lesson."

Adrian rushed toward the gym, his anger boiling over. All his girl wanted was to study in peace. Why did those horrible kids keep making things difficult for her? Had their parents never taught them how to behave? It was beyond outrageous.
