She stood up, legs shaking violently but somehow holding her weight, and walked to the bathroom with unsteady steps. The mirror showed a stranger staring back at her with hollow eyes. Gaunt cheeks that made her face look skeletal. Hair matted with sweat and dried blood and substances she didn't want to identify. Bruises mottled her pale skin in shades of purple, yellow, and green.

She looked like a victim, like someone who had been broken beyond repair.

She looked weak and defeated and ready to give up.

She looked like someone who would die without fighting back.

No, something cold and hard whispered in her mind with absolute conviction. Never again.
