Chapter 9 - The Witch

300 years later

It feels like it was yesterday that I left the city of Rome, but the winters I have lived through tell me a different story. Time around me keeps flowing, while I remain the same.

I have been searching for clues about him over the years, but it is as if he does not exist. If he watches me from time to time, then there must be some way for me to find him.

As I continue my journey, I see a cart pulled by a donkey. Two presences, one firm and full of vitality, the other somewhat frail.

-"Good morning, good sir." Kael says as he approaches the cart.

-"Good morning, traveler, can I help you?" Asks the man in the cart.

-"I'm kind of lost, could you tell me where I am?" Kael asks with a slight smile.

-"The village of Provence is to the north from here, we are heading to Lake Bimont to the witch's tower." Says the man.

-"The witch's tower?" Asks Kael, curious.

-"Yes, my wife is pregnant and is about to give birth, the witch may have a peculiar reputation, but she helps people!" Says the man, a little scared but with conviction in his voice.

-"Maybe I could accompany you? It's not every day that I get the pleasure of meeting a witch." Says Kael with a peculiar smile.

The man thinks for a moment, but ends up deciding to let Kael accompany them.

-"Get in, friend, my name is Marc and my wife's name is Annette," says Marc with a smile.

-"My name is Kael, thank you for your kindness." says Kael.

I climb onto the cart and see the woman, dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, and light cream skin. She seems to be in some pain as I see her gently hold her belly.

The trip continues without problems until we reach our destination. Upon getting off the cart, I notice a large stone tower with a presence inside. A strangely sweet aroma, someone like me. I maintain my posture and wait for Marc. Marc helps his wife to get up and heads to the tower.

As we climb the stairs, I prepare for the encounter. As soon as I reach the top, I see an incredibly beautiful woman, long black hair down to her waist, skin white as snow and red eyes like rubies.

-"Visitors?" says the unknown woman with a soft laugh.

Marc does everything he can to avoid looking directly at the woman, his face red as he swallows hard upon hearing her small laugh.

-"Ma'am, my wife is going into labor, I beg for your help!" Marc says, looking at the floor.

The woman smiles and tells Annette to lie down on the bed; she lifts her dress and begins the labor, which lasts almost three hours. Fortunately, by luck or perhaps because of the woman, Annette survives.

I say goodbye to the family and watch them leave while I stay behind.

-"And what would you want from me?" the woman says, smiling at Kael.

I look at the woman and pull back the hood; white hair falls over my shoulders, red eyes, and porcelain-white skin.

-"OH, a handsome man came to see this helpless woman!" says the woman as she puts her hand to her chest.

-"My name is Kael, sorry to bother you, ma'am." says Kael.

-"Handsome and polite, I see. The name I was born with is Lilith, but you can call me Lili. And what would you want from me?" asks Lilith as she winks at Kael.

I start talking to her and asking questions about the creature that follows me, describing its appearance and strength.

-"Certainly someone curious, but I don't recall knowing anyone like that. It should also be impossible to have more than one skill; in fact, most of the immortals don't even have one." says Lilith while pretending to think.

-"Well, it exists, and it seems to take some personal pleasure in my suffering!" says Kael thoughtfully.

Suddenly I feel an inexplicable attraction to Lilith, and unable to restrain myself, I grab her and pin her to the ground. I begin lightly touching her snow-white skin and prepare to tear her dress when she, with a smile, pushes me so hard that I hit the ceiling of the tower. She gets up and adjusts her dress slightly.

-"I never thought you were so possessive and rough, you could have simply asked this lady!" Lilith says as she lifts the skirt of her dress and shows her white legs.

As I begin to lose my mind again, my thoughts clear, and I calm down.

-"I'm sorry!" Kael says, embarrassed.

-"You don't have to, that's my ability." Lilith says with a teasing smile.

-"Ability? Why?" Kael asks, confused.

-"To create a little confidence, but I never thought I'd meet someone so hungry, I fear that if I weren't strong I would have been devoured!" Lilith says with feigned shyness. "Now that you know my ability, tell me about yours, and maybe I can help you improve it."

-"I decay things? Or at least I think so!" Kael says, confused.

-"You think? Strange, how exactly does your ability work?" Lilith asks.

Without replying, i grab a wooden plate from the nearby table, and it quickly decays until nothing is left.

-"It works perfectly on almost everything I touch, even humans, but it seems to be ineffective against others like us!" Kael says.

-"Try it on me, now I'm curious!" Lilith says, extending her hand fearlessly.

I touch her small, beautiful hand and can't stop thinking about the moment I held her. I look at her, so perfect like a sculpture made by divine hands, and notice her red eyes quickly turning black.

-"I'm hungry, but I think I already understand a little about your ability!" Lilith says mysteriously.
