Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Territory of the Young Dragon

The forest was no longer just a maze of green shadows and rustling leaves—it had become his. Every tree, every stream, every hill was part of the territory he now claimed. From above, his wings cut through the air with precision, carrying him higher than ever before. Golden eyes scanned the horizon, sharp, calculating. The sun filtered through the canopy, glinting off his crimson scales, highlighting how much he had grown.

He flexed his claws experimentally, feeling the lethal precision in each movement. Fire simmered in his chest, a controlled heat now, ready to be unleashed at a moment's notice. The battle with the human hunter had taught him more than strength—it had taught him timing, awareness, and instinct.

The forest below rustled again, but this time it was not prey. The system pulsed urgently.

Three creatures. Large, wolf-like monsters, each twice the size of a man. Muscles rippled under thick, matted fur. Their eyes glowed crimson as they moved in coordination, circling each other, sniffing the wind for their next meal. One glance at them made him realize these were predators in their own right—but he had evolved. He was not the same hatchling that had trembled at the first human encounter.

The dragon landed lightly on a ridge, claws sinking slightly into the moss-covered stone. Wings furled, smoke curling lazily from his nostrils. He crouched, studying the pack. Their movements were synchronized, a predator team that hunted together.

Interesting, he thought. They work together, but they lack true intelligence. Strategy is predictable.

He let his tail flick once, sending a small rock tumbling toward the nearest wolf. It twitched its head, sniffed the air, and barked a warning. The pack's leader stepped forward, eyes narrowing. They were aware now—but not fast enough.

The dragon leapt. Wings flared, claws extended. Fire erupted from his mouth in a controlled stream, scorching the closest wolf. It yelped, backing away, fur singed and smoke rising from its body.

The other two wolves lunged simultaneously. He rolled midair, dodging their massive paws with ease. His tail whipped like a whip, striking one across the chest, sending it sprawling. Another swipe of his clawed forelimb tore across the second's shoulder, splitting fur and flesh alike.

The pack yelped in confusion. Their coordination faltered under the dragon's speed and calculated aggression. The first wolf, singed and bleeding, tried to retreat—but instinctively, he chased it down. A single leap, a quick slash, and it was done.

[Skill Unlocked: Flame Tail | Tail attack infused with fire damage]

The remaining wolf growled, hesitated, then charged in desperation. He didn't flinch. Wings spread, fire surged in his chest. Tail coiled, claws ready.

The attack was swift, brutal, and precise. Tail whipped, fire licked the wolf, claws tore through its defenses, and teeth sank into the back of its neck. Within moments, the pack lay defeated, smoke rising from their bodies.

Silence returned to the forest, broken only by his own heavy breathing. He flexed his claws, satisfied. Each encounter, each fight, each hunt was shaping him, making him stronger. Every XP gained, every skill unlocked, every surge of fire and blood was proof of his growing power.

He lifted into the air again, gliding silently over the forest. Below him, streams, cliffs, and ancient trees stretched endlessly. Prey moved cautiously now, monsters avoided the ridge where the young dragon ruled.

Golden eyes scanned the horizon. Somewhere, a stronger threat waited. Humans. Monsters. Maybe even other dragons. And he would be ready.

He roared, low and resonating, wings flaring as the sound echoed across the forest. It was a declaration: this territory was claimed. Anyone who dared enter would face him.

The wind carried the smoke from the scorched pack across the trees. Small animals scattered, monsters retreated, and even distant humans would sense the presence of a predator. He had left a mark—a warning, a promise.

And yet, he felt it—the thrill of more. The excitement of bigger challenges. Of enemies stronger than the last. He had tasted combat, power, and survival, and he hungered for more.

The young dragon flexed his wings, claws digging into the ridge stone. Fire simmered low in his chest, a controlled heat ready to erupt at any moment. His golden eyes swept over the trees, the streams, the cliffs, every inch of his growing domain.

He was no longer just a survivor. No longer just a hatchling. He was a predator. A dragon. A ruler of his own territory.

And the world outside would soon know: predators no longer bow to hunters.

The forest fell silent as he rose higher into the sky, wings spread wide, smoke curling lazily from his nostrils. His eyes glimmered gold in the sunlight. Fire burned within him. Hunger, instinct, and strength combined into a single thought:

I am the predator. I am the dragon. And I will dominate.
