Lin Yuer woke up in his new apartment to sunlight streaming through floor-to-ceiling windows and the smell of fresh coffee.
For a moment, he just lay there, disoriented.
This isn't my apartment. This is too nice. Too expensive. Too—
Oh. Right. Xie Yunlan's place. My new home.
He dragged himself out of the comfortable bed—so much better than his old lumpy mattress—and followed the coffee smell to the kitchen.
Where Xie Yunlan was cooking breakfast.
In Lin Yuer's apartment.
At 6:30 in the morning.
"Good morning," Xie Yunlan said cheerfully, like this was completely normal. "I hope you don't mind. I used the spare key to come in early. Thought you might appreciate breakfast before school."
"You... cooked breakfast. In my apartment."
"Technically my apartment, but yes." Xie Yunlan plated what looked like a professional-quality omelet. "Eat. You need proper nutrition."
Lin Yuer sat at the kitchen island, still half-asleep, and accepted the plate.
