Minnie pov
I reached coffee shop by 5.10 Pm my shift will be over at 8.00 Pm
I here my name called by my co-worker
Maya
Maya : hey girl you are 10 mins late š¤Ø
Minnie : Sorry maya i was stuck in traffic please don't tell to our manager.
Maya : I won't tell our manager... but what are you going to do for me? š
Minnie : In a softer tone, I told her, 'I'll make your special chocolate boba tea for you.š
Maya : Accepted š
Shop manager : what are you girls talking about š§ Go and do your works
Minnie & Maya : yes Miss Ruby š
We went back to work. I handle the billing counter, and Maya works as a waitress. If she takes leave, I magically become a two-in-one employee, and if I take leave, she does the same. Our manager clearly believes we are superheroes who don't need extra staff-or a salary hike š¤§. Maya is a final-year commerce student, and I honestly like working here, so we never quit. But the real reason? Our cafĆ© is famous for handsome boys visiting daily. Maya gets excited the moment they walk in, while I pretend to stay busy and avoid eye contact-slowly, but bravely, trying to overcome my fear one cup of coffee at a time š
As time passed, I finished my work, handed over the day's cash to my manager, said goodbye to Maya, and picked up my things. I start my scooty back home, driving always gives me a strange kind of peace. The coffee shop is about twenty minutes away, and those minutes feel like my quiet escape.
When I reached home, I parked my scooty and saw my mom in the kitchen making dinner. I quietly went behind her and hugged her for a second. She got scared at first, then smiled and said, "You're not a kid anymore-don't scare me like that." I laughed, and when I saw my favorite food on the table, my happiness doubled. I went to freshen up, feeling calm and safe, especially because my father wasn't home.
While having dinner my mom asked:
Mom : How was your First day class dear ā¤ļø
Minnie: It's good mom as always š ( Every day, without missing a single day, my mom asks me how my day was. She doesn't ask out of habit, but out of love-because she wants to know how I truly feel. Even when I say "it's good" and hide the heaviness inside me, she understands. I never tell her my pain because I don't want to worry her, so I keep everything to myself. Yet somehow, she always knows when I'm not okay. She doesn't push, she doesn't question further-she just stays close, silently looking at me in the way only a mother can, where words aren't needed to feel everything)
We finished our dinner and i help mom to clean dishes after that i went to my room and sleep .
In the middle of the night, a sudden noise from the hall pulled me out of sleep, and when I went to check, I saw my father drunk, shouting at my mother. I was so scared at the moment When he tried to raise his hand at her, something inside me broke and became strong at the same time-I stepped in and stopped him. I shouted, not out of anger alone, but out of fear and love, holding back my tears because I didn't want to shatter in front of someone who wasn't worth my pain. I kept telling myself again and again to stay strong. Later, my mom and I went back to my room to sleep, But i can't sleep easily, no matter how tired I am, The scene from twenty minutes ago kept replaying in my mind like a cruel loop, and even when I finally drifted off, my heart was still wide awake, carrying the weight of that night in silence. š
