Entering the mansion, he quickly realized the place was empty. His family was not wealthy enough to keep servants; the two men who usually accompanied his mother had only been hired temporarily.
"At this hour, Tomoko is probably at volleyball practice," Shin murmured, glancing at his phone.
As he headed up to the second floor, he noticed that his other sister's room, Yumemi, was closed. Even so, it didn't seem like she was inside.
Just to be sure, he tried the door. Or rather, he tried to. The handle didn't budge; she had locked it from the inside.
He frowned and knocked firmly against the wood.
"Sis? Hey, answer me."
No response. That all but confirmed it—she wasn't home. Yumemi was a light sleeper; if she were inside, she would have woken up and replied by now.
Perfect. She's not here… but how much time do I have? he wondered. Either way, he sent a message to Izumi.
