Chapter Ten (Part II) — Pressure and Purpose

The gravity deepened.

Not suddenly—

but deliberately.

The chamber responded to Azharyon's rising aura, its runes flaring as if unsure whether to obey him… or fear him.

My feet sank half an inch into the stone.

The air grew heavy.

Not crushing—but demanding.

Azharyon rolled his shoulders once, the sound like boulders grinding together.

"Again," he said.

This time, he vanished.

Not literally.

Just faster than before.

I felt it a heartbeat too late.

Pain screamed across my side as his shoulder clipped me, launching my body across the chamber.

I twisted midair, barely managing to land upright—stone exploding beneath my feet as I slid backward.

My lungs burned.

Good.

That meant I was still breathing.

Before I could reset—

He was already there.

A feint.

Left fist swung wide.

I moved to counter—

And his knee rose.

Too clean.

Too precise.

I crossed my arms just in time.

BOOM.

The impact drove me into the ground, carving a shallow crater around my body.

The gravity spiked again.

My blood roared.

Not in rebellion—

In excitement.

I pushed myself up.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

Azharyon watched me now—not smiling.

Evaluating.

"You're not panicking," he said. "Good."

I wiped blood from my lip and adjusted my stance.

Predator low.

Weight centered.

Breath steady.

"I told you," I replied calmly. "You can't protect me forever."

That—

That made him grin.

The kind that meant the lesson was over.

And the fight had begun.

The chamber doors sealed completely.

The runes flared red.

From the edges of the field, I felt it—

Intent.

The others weren't just watching anymore.

They were waiting.

For my mistake.

For my breakthrough.

Or for me to fall.

Azharyon cracked his neck.

"Survive the next minute," he said, aura erupting fully, "and I'll stop holding back."

The gravity screamed.

My blood answered.

And for the first time—

I welcomed it.
