Chapter 27 - What am I?

"What do you mean? Am I aware of what I am? I am a Fallen Angel.", Feyra answered confidently. She didn't quite understand what Jann wanted from her.

"Hm... I suppose that answer is right. In most aspects. Yet when I watch you... It feels more as though you are not really coming to terms with your new strength. Do you think you need to live here? It is true that only some beings can go to space without needing oxygen. I'm not one of them.", he pointed upwards and looked sharply at Feyra before turning around and starting to walk. He signaled her to follow and to keep close to him so that not everyone would hear them.

"Sometimes it feels like the walls have ears. Best stay nearby.", he walked ahead looking left and right not noticing anything and turning back around. Feyra was behind him, close enough she would hear his words and would also be able to answer. "So what I mean is... You know you aren't bound to this world, right?"

"I suppose so... I don't have the desire to visit space yet though.", Feyra answered still a little confused what Jann was trying to tell her. "What are you trying to get to? And what does this have to do with you?"

"Hm... Well... What I want to say is... Your kind is able to destroy stars and worlds. You need to learn about yourself and your new strength. It'll be a long process before you may feel fully accepting of yourself.", he made a pause but didn't stop walking. With his hands behind his back, his long robes were swaying as he walked, almost not making a sound with his steps.

"Accepting myself? I've never thought about it that way... I only know that life's value changed for me. I know I'm no longer just a God. Yet I guess you're right. I've barely lived as a Fallen Angel. Most of the time I had spent locked up in this place that was supposed to be my prison. I still don't know why they put me there... Rather than resembling a prison it was more like a cave made to be a prison for me.

"Now that I've traveled already a bit and gained some freedom, life is different. In the past I was under watch and could barely do anything I wanted to do. There is so much I want to do.", she said looking at the sky. She was aware that she had destructive powers but she also knew that using them would cause trouble and a lot of destruction.

In that village where she had slain that monster the fields had also taken damage but someone had come to repair it. Feyra was still wondering who it had been and how they had done it.

"Suddenly gaining freedom isn't easy either. You also had to flee from the Kingdom. I suppose there is a lot to discover.

"In my past I only became an Immortal after a friend of mine had taken me out on an adventure. He died while I also died... But then I came back. I hadn't known till then that my father had been an Immortal too which had made me a Half Immortal.

"Half Immortals can become Immortals should they die. It's a fifty-fifty chance but I made it. Yet... After that I had to deal with the loss of a friend, grief and even hatred. I had to learn once again who I was and uncover how everything could turn out as it did. My strength had increased, my life was longer... Swords in my hands broke easily so I had to look for a master swordsmith who could make a durable weapon for me.

"Controlling this strength and not harming others was the hardest part to learn. Humans are more fragile than us. They break easier.", Jann stopped talking again looking at his hand while walking. Something seemed to pain him yet he clearly had come to term with it. "I've tried helping countless people... Yet I didn't help them but accidentally killed them. I tried to save their lives but under the strength I had, they broke to never wake up again. Since then I learned through a long and painful path to only use a fraction of my power and strength to not harm others."

Feyra was listening to him. She had also helped others but she often didn't need to use a lot of her strength. All she had to do was use the right amount of medicine or determine the disease or illness the person had.

I have helped a dragon ever since I've become a Fallen Angel but before that... I only ever needed to get the amount of herbs right. But what if someone... If someone needed this method... How was it called again? C... P... R? Yes CPR!

She was deep in thought not even noticing Jann had stopped and she bumped into his back.

"Watch where you're going. Not everyone is so kind like I am. What is on your mind?", he asked looking at Feyra's face.

"CPR... Ever heard of that?", she asked Jann who immediately looked dumbfounded.

"What is that?"

"I've read about it in a book over 700 years ago. I can't remember it clearly but I think it was used when someone seemed to be unresponsive and not breathing. The author had stated times when it would be used but I've forgotten some of them.", she explained looking at Jann who seemed even more dumbfounded.

"And what is making you think about that now?", he asked.

"Well you mentioned that when you used your strength you killed people in the past.

"This method requires someone to do chest compressions. Usually it's done by a person which would mean someone with more strength would have to only use a fraction to not crush that person's chest while doing so."

Jann seemed to understand more where her thoughts were going although he hadn't ever heard of what Feyra was describing. "I suppose as someone versed in medicine you'll need to learn that. Your strength is even far beyond mine. Even if you may not want to accept it but if we fought... I would lose in mere seconds. A Fallen Angel is far too strong in comparison to even Immortals."

Jann continued walking being more at rest knowing Feyra had understood his point that he had made. Suddenly he seemed to remember something and turned his head back to look at Feyra. "Have you ever heard of the name Zahel?"

"No. Who is that?"

"Zahel is the strongest and first Fallen Angel. His name is something everyone knows but the other details are usually hard to get. There isn't a lot known about him besides these few facts. Another question... You have two wings, right?"

"Yes. Is that important?"

"Zahel is said to have six wings.", Jann said looking back again and seeing a shocked Feyra.

"How is that possible?"

"Even I don't know. But let's leave that aside. I just wanted you to know the name.", Jann said before turning around a corner and revealing they were already close to the building where Feyra could finally get her permit from.

"There are a lot of things you may have to think about in the future. But remember that everything you feel is right, is something worth a try. Unless we're talking about killing people. Though... If my information are right then you may have luck. The world is shifting with Origin's rise. Does the Highest Court ring a bell?"

The Highest Court... Ah from the Tarot Cards!

"Yes. Why do you ask?"

"The Highest Court deals with anything of higher power. Which would include you too. However, I know that not everyone is working together with them which also means that if the Kingdom wishes to execute you... Then not even the Highest Court may be able to stop them unless they are the ones taking out a few people.

"Overall... If you find a place that is more open minded than those old geezers in the Kingdom, then you could also commit crimes without necessarily being executed. Though... I haven't heard of the punishments the Highest Court does so perhaps staying away from crimes would be the best option."

Never planned on commiting crimes anyway. It's just good to know that I may not have to worry about one country being after my life... I wonder... The Highest Court seems quite interesting.

Jann stopped before a large building with lots of statues around, and a fountain on the plaza, that was in front of it.

"Well I guess our walk finds an end here. However, I want you to remember these questions on your journey. During that time you'll meet a lot of different people that will have different needs. Remember you're not who you were before. You are more free now but you also have more strength and power. Learn to control it and come to terms with the past, the future and the present.", Jann said before he said goodbye and left Feyra thinking for a while.

"I knew the walls had ears... Someone has been following us.", Jann said turning around a corner and standing in front of a figure with a black cloak.

"Seems like you're rather the stalker in comparison to me. Why are you here? And what is it you want?", he asked in a serious and slightly hostile tone. His eyes glimmering, his hand was on his dagger, ready to attack.

"Even if you fought me you would lose.", the figure said before walking towards Jann.

How did they get so close in such a short time? They are right... I can't defeat them..., he thought before stepping back and releasing his hand from his dagger. "Alright. I'll let you go."

The figure turned around and walked away leaving Jann behind who had a cold shiver running down his spine.

Feyra was looking a little more at the statues and the fountain thinking more about everything she had just learned.

The question... What am I? It's the truth I am a Fallen Angel but I haven't let go of my past self fully yet. If I think about it... I've always tried my best like I had imagined it in the past... Yet the past is the past. The present is different and so is the present me. Over time people change and their views change too. Going from a God to a Fallen Angel... I guess that when I see my reflection now I have already changed. My hair, my blood and my body all have changed. My eyes aren't as naive anymore. Yet I still act sometimes childish knowing I haven't seen the world yet.

What my goals for this journey are... At first I only thought the truth and finding Loreen's grave but I suppose now my goal is also to find out more about Fallen Angels and the world. Let me make new memories and gain more knowledge.

Feyra looked one last time at her reflection in the water before she went inside the building.

The statues still stood like the last time. It was unlikely they would change knowing they are heavy and hard to transport.

In total there were twelve statues all resembling the zodiac signs. Feyra hadn't noticed it before, just thinking that some of them were here, but now she had the time to just look at them.

All of them are majestic and beautiful. The statue for Leo resembles a great King or Ruler with a lion by his side. A true picture of strength.

She continued to look at the statues until a man came over.

"Excuse me. I guess you're Miss Feyra who is here for her permit?"

It was the guy from the reception who held a piece of paper in his hand looking at Feyra.

"That would be me.", she answered finally peeling her eyes off the statues. The guy signaled her to follow and she did so.

Three other people stood near the reception who awaited Feyra.

"Congratulations to your permit.", a woman said handing a little card over to Feyra.

"Why is everyone here?", she asked remembering that every single one of them was one of the people she had met before.

"You have received the highest clearance for the Alliance. You can even go to the meetings and potentially give ideas.", the older man said.

Feyra was a little stunned before she also took a look at the permit.

It's really the highest clearance!?
