Chapter 24 - Second Day: Hakari v Todo

(Pov Satoshi)

The first day had ended rather quickly with Yuta finding the curse and exorcising it. The other students had engaged in limited fighting apart from Hakari and Todo thos two made a beeline for each other and just started wailing. I'm surprised neither of them has a concussion. Either way, the first day was a victory for the Tokyo school; now, all that remained would be the one-on-one matches for tomorrow.

They didn't function like a tournament where you go up the ranks, but instead each student would randomly be paired with a counterpart from the other school, and whichever school had more victories won the second day. The rules only stated not to kill your opponent, so this was going to get either very interesting or very messy.

As we entered the small training field that was being used for the second day, the names were drawn, and the lineup was decided.

Yuta vs Mechamaru

Kirara vs Miwa

Maki vs Noritoshi

Mai vs Momo

Hakari vs Todo

Well, at least some of these fights would be interesting to watch. I almost felt bad for Momo and Miwa; they were both out of their depth, but nothing could stop the fight now. The first round began shortly, with both Yuta and Mechamaru clashing. Yuta's blade met the body of the puppet.

Mechamaru or Muta Kokichi was an interesting character. He also had a heavenly restriction, but in the other direction. In the case of my restriction, I had no cursed energy but a strong body, while Kokichi had a weak body but a massive amount of cursed energy along with a massive range, which he used to control his puppets. Later in life, he would have made a deal with Kenjaku and Mahito to heal his body, but I didn't know how things would go this time around, with Kenjaku not having Geto's body.

As the clashes continued, it was clear who had the advantage. Despite having only known about the Jujutsu world for a few months, Yuta had insane amounts of cursed energyeven more than Mechamaru, which felt mean. In the end, despite the puppets abilitites, Yuta was able to overcome Mechamaru, damaging the puppet enough that he forced a surrender, ending the first round with a victory for Tokyo.

The second round wasn't much to talk about, despite her odd technique; Kirara knew how to use it, and she slid Miwa around the arena until she got dizzy and fell over. Poor girl didn't even get a chance to draw her sword.

The third round did promise to be better with Maki against Noritoshi. I had seen some of their fight during the first day, and I was impressed. I hadn't thought Flowing Red Scale could match up, but it had, though now there'd be no running, just combat.

The fight began with Noritoshi using Flowing Red Scale, and shortly after, the two began exchanging blows. It seemed almost even, but I could tell Maki held the advantage. Despite separating her and Mai's souls, she hadn't yet fully unlocked her restriction, just like in the original, but with time, I was helping to overcome her mental blocks. Once that was done, she'd be as strong as I or as strong as I was when I was her age.

The two students jumped away from each other, but Maki quickly launched herself using a jump kick to Noritoshi's chest to stun him before hitting him with an uppercut. He flew backwards but was still awake, surprisingly. He used his new distance to activate convergence, a packet of blood bursting above his head before it seeped between his hands. He shouted Piercing Blood, and the beam of red shot towards Maki, but unlike in the forest, she knew it was coming and managed to dodge the attack. After that, she swept his legs out and forced him to yield, granting round three to Tokyo.

Similar to round two, the fourth round was barely anything. Momo tried to fly up, and Mai caught her with a constructed net. Again, I felt a little bad for her, but not much I could do about that. The principals decided to take a break before the final round, so I went to check on Maki and Mai. Also, Yuta, too, I guess he had done good meanwhile Satoru was talking with Kirara and Hakari.

"Hey, you three, good job out there," I called out when I saw the first years. I was proud of how much they had all grown in such a short time.

"Hey, Satoshi, why are we still here? What does the last match matter now?" Maki asked, I understood the question. The determination of which school won would be based on total victories, and we had already won four, but just winning wasn't the only reason we were here.

"Well, this whole thing is mostly to see how well the students are doing in their training, who wins matters less to the principals or higher-ups than how well they do it."

"So this is just so Yaga can show off?" Mai asked

"Yup." I responded, "Also, so I can show off you guys are my students after all, so I can take credit for your victory."

They gave me a look for that, but it wasn't wrong. Bragging rights are about half the reason teachers of Jujutsu are so involved; both Yaga and Satoru had done the same thing before. Our talk continued for a bit before the buzzer signaled the final round was about to begin.

As we all sat back down in the arena, I could feel the tension coming from the two sorcerers in the arena. They were already both Semi-Grade 1, and both of their techniques were powerful when put to proper use. As stated before, Hakari could summon the train doors from the pachinko game based on the same name as his technique, Private Pure Love Train. Despite having lived in Japan for twenty-six years, I still had no idea how pachinko worked or why it was so popular, but it clearly was, especially with delinquents like Hakari.

Todo, on the other hand, was not just physically strong, but his technique was one of the most disorientating. It was called Boogie Woogie, and it activated when he clapped his hands, allowing him to swap any two things that had cursed energy. These could include people such as himself, allies, or enemies, but he could also swap with objects that had been imbued with cursed energy. This ability, combined with his large intellect, meant that fighting him was a nightmare for the senses. I'm just glad I don't have cursed energy and can't be swapped.

The two fighters stood there observing each other and promptly ripped their own shirts off. I swear there was something in the water at these schools that led to this. The school has had to purchase twenty-five replacement shirts for Hakari already this year because every time he fought someone, he ripped his own off. Then the two rushed forward and began to pummel each other without taking any time to block or dodge. They weren't yet using their techniques, just cursed energy reinforcement.

Though in such a clash, Hakari had the advantage with his cursed energy being so rough that even the reinforcement couldn't stop the feeling. Then, before Hakari could land another blow, there was a loud clap, and suddenly, the two swapped places, and Todo landed a back kick on Hakari's head. He stumbled for a bit before jumping back into the fight, now using his technique as well, slamming Todo back into a set of closed doors.

The two began rapidly using both their techniques, though it was still a stalemate, as whenever Hakari summoned doors, Todo swapped their places, but soon, Todo got a lucky hit, landing a roundhouse to Hakari's gut. Hakari fell to his knees, a large bruise forming and likely some broken lower ribs. Then he looked up and moved his hands, his right hand was laid flat and pointed left, while his left hand did the same but pointed right, then he spoke.

"Domain Expansion: Idle Death Gamble!"

Suddenly, a barrier covered the whole arena, trapping not just Todo but the rest of us as well. This was one time I wished I had some cursed energy because then I'd know how this thing worked. But that mattered little as Hakari and Todo went right back to fighting now, though Hakari's techniques had changed in color to align with the game's rules. From what I remember, he has a 1/239 chance to hit the jackpot and win, though Hakari was insanely lucky, meaning he would hit it nearly every time, and when he did, it was over.

The jackpot of the domain would flood Hakari's body with unlimited cursed energy, causing him to perform RCT on instinct, meaning not only was he stronger, but he was also effectively immortal for four minutes and eleven seconds after a jackpot. As I was thinking, though, it happened that Hakari's luck won out, and suddenly music was blasting throughout the arena.

"You struck me, boy, you knocked me down

Was never looking for you, but you called me out

You caught me and I can't get enough

I'm trippin' out, I'm trippin' out

I'm trippin' out on love"

Hakari was dancing in the arena, though it didn't last, as Todo once more rushed him, but Hakari was much stronger now, and the fight didn't last, even with the swaps. Todo couldn't keep up with the infinite energy of a jackpot and was subsequently knocked out of the ring.

With that, the Goodwill event was now over the Tokyo school had won, and each school had gotten to show off their students, even if it was a little unfair. Things were good; it was nice seeing how happy the students are when they win, and to be honest, they deserve it. The life of a sorcerer isn't easy, so every bit of happiness should be cherished because who knows what might happen in the future.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm putting the authors note here this time because I have two announcements and I want to make sure everybody sees them.

The first one you guys have been so great with the collections and power stones so if we can get to 100 power stones, I'll make a bonus chapter of Satoshi and Shoko's first date.

The second thing will be another poll. I've been writing on the side another jjk fanfic about a second Ten Shadows user who is the son of Ogi and is the younger brother to Maki and Mai. I have about three chapters ready for it already, but I wasn't sure if I should post it now or wait until I'm done with this one.

For both points posting it now would split my attention, but you'd get two stories being written so two things to read. If I don't post it though it could remain a side project meaning I could build a backlog and focus more on this story and post the other one after.

So let me know

Start posting it now.

Wait until you finish this one.
