Chapter 30 - In Hiding

(Pov Satoshi)

I had made it just in time to save the students. I knew that the mission the higher-ups had sent me on was designed to take as long as possible, not even counting the commute time. Lucky for me, I not only knew about what they planned, but I also had a brother who could teleport. After completing my mission, I gave him a call, and the next thing you know I'm smashing in a finger bearer's face. Though this does raise a question of what to do now, as in the original timeline, Satoru used Yuji's "death" as a chance to train him in secret and keep the higher-ups from trying to kill him more.

"I think you should make them think it worked," Satoru said as we had been going back and forth on how to deal with this situation. He thought that we should act like Yuji was dead to keep the heat off him for now, at least. It wasn't the worst idea, although this time Nobara and Megumi would be in the know, and they might not be able to hide that.

"Are you sure, Satoru? This could be risky." I spoke.

"Hey, don't worry, plus it gives me a chance to teach him how to use cursed energy," Satoru responded.

"Alright, Satoru, just make sure to keep an eye on him, alright i'll go and break it to the others." I finally relented and made my way over to the three students.

"Satoshi-Sensei, what's going on?" Megumi asked as he saw me approach

"Well, here's the situation: this mission was an attempt to kill Yuji, the higher-ups knew the curse was likely active and that it was dangerous." I began. "So we're going to pretend it worked, you'll go with Satoru, he'll help hide you for a while, still teaching you, so the higher-ups stop trying to kill you three."

"What!" all three of them shout.

"Yeah, I know, but it's for the best if they know Yuji survived; they'll just send you all on more missions like this until he's actually dead," I said. "Also, he still needs more training in cursed energy manipulation, something I can't teach but Satoru can."

They seemed to think on it for a moment before agreeing, though they did have one final goodbye before Yuji went to stand by Satoru. Before the two of them left, I handed over the Sukuna finger I had gotten out of the Finger Bearer, and then Satoru teleported them out of there.

This would present an interesting opportunity in about a month or so, when the issue with Mahito happens. As part of his training, Satoru will send Yuji with Nanami to investigate a series of odd murders. During this mission, they would discover the cursed spirit Mahito, who had the power of Idle Transfiguration, allowing him to manipulate the soul of anyone he touched. Yuji would also meet and befriend Yoshino Junpei, a young, bullied student who would be manipulated and later transfigured by Mahito. While I did want to try to save Junpei and bring him on as another student, Yuji's fight with Mahito would be important, as it would teach him how to attack the soul.

Given the soul of Sukuna within him currently, Yuji unknowingly has already begun to understand the shape of his soul, meaning he is one of the few who can actually injure Mahito. The timing would be close, as I'd have to show up at just the right moment to prevent Mahito from transforming Junpei and subsequently escaping, though Kenjaku likely wouldn't make that easy. The Idle Transfiguration technique is necessary for Kenjaku to begin the culling games and awaken numerous sorcerers, and since he wouldn't have Geto's body this time to extract the technique, he would be much more reliant on the cursed spirit himself, making it much more likely he'd get involved should Mahito lose.

These were all questions for later, though, as it would be at least a few more weeks before that mission took place, and I had other things to do before then. The main one was to train my students for the upcoming Goodwill event, as things had shifted a bit due to my involvement. Obviously, Mai was not at the Kyoto school, but they still had Todo, Noritoshi, and Mechamaru, all of whom were quite heavy hitters now, plus they had gained two new students, the Hasaba twins.

For a while after the Star Plasma Mission, Suguru and Riko had been living in Tokyo. After graduating, Suguru had helped out around the school a few times and had officially adopted the two young girls he had helped save. A few years ago, though they moved to Kyoto and Suguru officially became a teacher at the Kyoto Jujutsu branch, and later enrolled the two girls there as well. They were good kids now that they had a better role model instead of the original, much more racist Suguru.

As I had these thoughts, I was trying to come up with our cover story to make sure things were kept straight when we told the others. In the original, Yuji had actually died for a bit before Sukuna revived him after forcing the binding vow on him, and Megumi had seen Yuji die in front of him. Now, though both Megumi and Nobara had seen Yuji survive and leave with Satoru, it would be harder to sell the dead classmate angle.

We began making our way back to the school and had decided on our new story by the time we got back. Officially, Yuji died when the Special Grade cursed spirit caught the team off guard, and Yuji fought to give his classmates time to escape. His body was unrecognizable when I showed up to the fight. Should things come to it, I could just include the second year in the lie. I doubt they'd have any particular reason not to go with it; none of them were loyal to the higher-ups.

I had plans for them, too; the higher-ups had always been a massive pain in the ass. Satoru felt the same and frequently threatened to just kill them, and in the original story, that's exactly what he would do after being freed from the prison realm. I also had plans to get rid of them, but I needed more justification than I currently had, or else things could get ugly, so the best option we had was to bide our time and wait for the right opportunity.
