Chapter 36 - Goodwill Event Day 1

(Pov Satoshi)

It was the first day of the Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event, and while I had weakened the enemy, I was still on edge for some reason. Sure, I hadn't technically killed any that took place in the direct attack, unless you count Mahito, given he did kill some people stealing the locked up Sukuna fingers, but with their numbers and honestly their two best curses dead, they should be unwilling to risk it. So why did it feel like something major was about to happen?

Sure, there was always the possibility they would go through with the attack anyway, but this felt different, almost familiar for some reason. Without any actual proof beyond some odd feelings, I couldn't be sure Satoru would believe me, but I didn't want to risk freaking out the students for being overly paranoid. In the event the attack does still happen, it shouldn't be so bad. Even in the original timeline, the students managed to defend themselves long enough for Satoru to arrive, and this time they'd be stronger and more numerous.

The students had all gathered in their respective starting areas, and so the two schools' staff had also gone into the observation room to watch the event. I got a weird look from Gakuganji, who had never really liked me for some reason, most likely related to his being some random old higher-up and hating all things not traditional except his guitar. He may have also been worried I knew about his kill order on Yuji. I did obviously not just from the previous knowledge, but because I stood outside when he told them very big upside to no cursed energy, just about no one can sense when I'm nearby. It wasn't that big an issue, though, as I doubted it would change from the original, especially because Aoi had no interest in killing him, and the Hasaba twins also didn't want to, though more as a favor to me as their favorite uncle.

The booth was large enough for all of the teachers to sit comfortably and not too close, as even though the two schools are sister schools, the staff never really gets along with each other. It wasn't helped by Satoru constantly antagonizing the Kyoto school ever since he started attending Jujutsu High. I often wondered what would have been different if he had attended the Kyoto school instead, as it was technically closer to the clan compound we grew up in. The big three clans all had their headquarters in Kyoto because it was the spiritual heart of Jujutsu or something.

As we sat down, the screens turned on, showing the view from various cameras across the forest in which the contest would be held. Similar to usual, the first day's contest was technically meant to be a hunt focused on finding and exorcising a Grade 2 cursed spirit before the other school, though most of the time it devolved into the two schools just beating the crap out of each other. Then, on the second day, it was technically the hosting principal's decision on the activity, but they always chose to go with one-on-one battles. Though this time Satoru had confided his secret plan to get a more fun activity for the second day.

The announcement was given and the students rushed off into the woods and began searching for each other things went about as typical as they could the two teams rushed into the forst and immediately began moving towards each other and Aoi immediately makes it to Yuji and the two begin to fight while the others split off there is an additional member though as I can just barely see Junpei nearby likely hiding and looking for an opportunity to use his shikigami Moondregs. Despite Yuji's strength, however, his control of cursed energy still isn't great, and he ends up getting pummeled by Aoi for a while before the boy stands back and asks his usual question.

"First year, what's your name?" He asked him, pointing at Yuji.

"I'm Itadori Yuji," Yuji responded.

"Well, Itadori, I have just one question for you: what kind of woman do you like?" He asked with that staple weird look he had.

Yuji took a moment to give it some thought before he responded. "Well, I like a tall woman with a nice big ass like Jennifer Lawrence."

Once he said that, Aoi went through a revelation to the point he began crying. "Itadori, you and I were destined to be best friends."

"Hold on, you just learned my name!" Yuji yelled back.

Just then, Junpei jumped out from where he had been hiding and summoned his shikigami. Moondregs was a large jellyfish shikigami that interacted in a rather unique way with Junpei's technique, as it transformed the cursed energy he infused into it into a powerful paralytic poison that caused black spots to form alongside a burning sensation. It also had two sharpened tendrils for direct offense. Junpei attempted to use the large shikigami to incapacitate Aoi, but the older student jumped out of the way before turning to Junpei and striking a similar pose as earlier.

"You must be the new transfer. Tell me, what is your name?" He asked, catching Junpei off guard as he looked to Yuji for help, but all he did was just nod.

"I'm Yoshino Junpei." He said as Moondregs circled behind him, preparing to be used.

"Well then, Yoshino, I'll ask you the same question: what is your type of girl?" He asked the boy.

"Uh, well, I guess I'd say I like a girl with big boobs," Junpei said.

"Well, that's fine," Aoi said, becoming visibly less interested now knowing their ideals don't align.

Junpei looked somewhat incensed by the comment, but it didn't last long as an arrow came flying out of the woods, aiming directly for Yuji, but at the last moment, he disappeared, and in his place was Noritoshi, who just barely managed to throw the arrow off course. While he liked to keep the technique close to his chest, Todo Aoi had the cursed technique Boogie Woogie, which allowed him to swap any two people or objects that contained cursed energy by clapping his hands together.

The two Kyoto students argued for a bit before Aoi and Yuji both went off into the forest with Junpei trailing behind them. If things went as I thought, then Aoi was going off to show Yuji how to better use his cursed energy, a crucial step in Yuji unleashing his first black flashes. Junpei could also benefit from these teachings, as he was still new and had barely any idea how to use his cursed energy and mostly relied on his shikigami.

Things went about as usual from then on, with the students fighting, though there were some changes, such as Mai being the one to meet and fight the Hasaba twins, and Megumi got some help from Nobara in his fight with Noritoshi, because poor Momo got knocked down by Maki right away. It was your typical battle when things suddenly took a turn as the sky in the forest went from empty to having a large barrier forming around it. The attack on Jujutsu High had begun. How unfortunate for them.

It didn't take long for us teachers to jump into action, leaving the booth and making our way towards the forest, and stopping before the now fully deployed barrier. We all began entering until Satoru was repulsed from the barrier, and after a moment understood the issue.

"So that's what it is, hey Satoshi, go on ahead and save our students i'll join you later." He said.

"Wait, why can't you get through, but the rest of us can?" Utahime cut in.

"Because whoever made this barrier gave it one purpose, allowing entry to everyone except Gojo Satoru." He said before flying upwards and beginning whatever he had planned to take the thing down. As he left, I entered the barrier and began searching for the students. The biggest threat in here currently would be Hanami, as not only was she a Special Grade cursed spirit, but also incredibly durable, able to tank four black flashes alongside the combined beating they got from Aoi and Yuji. Before that, though, she would attack most of the students at the small compound area within the forest, so I had planned to head there first to try and keep them from getting hurt, but along the way, I ran into a few others.

I found Mai along with Nanako and Mimiko as they fought a curse I didn't recognize. Its body seemed to be an oddly compact ball made of scrap metal and wires, though occasionally human-looking hands would stick out of the side to take swings at the students. I couldn't tell what technique it was using, though, as the curse seemed content to just try to bludgeon them, and it wasn't looking good. Despite being stronger than she would have been, Mai was still struggling to both protect the two girls behind her and fight the curse, not to mention she was clearly exhausted from using her construction during the first battles.

I didn't waste anytime and immediately joined the fight, drawing out Playful Cloud and striking the curse, knocking it back. I went to check on the three to make sure they didn't need immediate attention when I heard a voice.

"Gojo Satoshi, I knew you couldn't resist! I've been waiting for this day!" The voice shouted, and it was odd. I felt like I knew this voice, but I couldn't remember why, nor why it was coming from this random, cursed spirit.

"How do you know me?" I asked it to put myself between the curse and the others.

"Really, you're saying you don't remember me?!" It shouted, somehow angrier than before, as the ball that made its main body began to shake.

"I don't make a habit of knowing curses," I say once more, now confused.

"Then maybe you'll remember this!" It says before an arm pops out and slams down. I notice a large shadow forming around me, and when I look up, there's a massive object flying down at me. I manage to dodge, but when I look at it, I'm shocked it's a massive industrial hammer. There's only one other person who had a technique like this.

"Oh shit, I know you, Tara." I said.

"It's Taro, you arrogant bastard!" He yelled.

"Uncle Satoshi, how do you know this curse?" Nanako asked.

"Well, it's kind of my fault, you see. Back when I was in school, like you three, I went on a mission to eliminate a curse user, but at the end, I got rushed and forgot to use a cursed tool to kill him," I explained to the three of them, getting some rather incredulous looks back. "Honestly, I forgot about this guy. He must have become a vengeful spirit." As I finished talking, another hammer came down, but I dodged this one as well.

This would be interesting, obviously. I had killed him once already, but now he had gotten stronger due to his new cursed body, and I had grown even stronger than that, especially because, as far as I could tell, he was still in his cursed womb form, meaning he was still rather weak. I just had to kill him right this time.
