Chapter 37 - The Sweetest Bait

"I thought you said you'd wait?"

After I got off work and was about to head home, I saw Elara sitting at our usual meeting spot—the chairs outside the convenience store.

I didn't bother asking what she was doing there. The bottle in her hand already answered that question.

It was the milk I liked. Too sweet for Elara to drink herself.

So of course, she was here for me.

"I did wait until you got off work."

Her head rested against her hand as she idly spun the bottle between her fingers, like someone who had cast out bait and was patiently waiting for a bite.

For some reason, her charming smile irritated me today.

I strode forward and dropped into the chair across from her.

"But you said you'd give me a few days." It hadn't even been a full day, and she was already here. I glared at her openly. "Did you come to ask about that?"

"No." Of course, it was only me who thought that. "I came because I wanted to see you, Lyra."
