Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Seven-Day Clock

Thee world was quiet. Too quiet. No cars honking. No neighbors screaming. Just the sound of the wind rattling the open window of the inn.

The curtains were fluttering like ghosts. They were stained with the dust of a city that had just died.

I looked at Janiella. She was curled up on the floor. Shivering. Her chocolate skin was covered in a thin layer of cold sweat.

That blonde hair of hers was a mess. It was stuck to her forehead. She looked like she'd seen the devil and shook his hand.

She probably had. Anyway.

I was still naked. My heart was trying to punch its way out of my ribs. The wardrobe I'd crashed into was a pile of toothpicks. My back hurt like hell. I looked down at my cock. It was still heavy. Slick with the "medicine" that had just saved her life.

"Hex?" she whispered. Her voice was thin. Like paper. "What happened to me? I... I felt like I was burning. I wanted to eat you. I mean really eat you."

She looked down at her breasts. They were still heaving with every panicked breath. Her clothes were half-torn. They were hanging off her body like rags. She didn't remember the claws. She didn't remember trying to rip my throat out.

"The rain," I said. My voice was raspy. I didn't reach for my pants yet. I needed to see if she was going to turn again. "That golden light. It did something to everyone. You turned, Janiella. You were... one of them."

"One of what?" She looked toward the window.

I didn't have an answer. I just sat on the edge of the creaking bed. I watched the way her nipples peaked in the cold air. I felt the same. But different. Every muscle in my body felt tight. Like a loaded spring. I looked at the floor where I had released inside her. It wasn't glowing anymore. It just looked like normal cum. But it worked.

I walked to the window. I stayed low. I didn't want to be a target. Down in the street, it was a goddamn nightmare. People were wandering around. They weren't just zombies. They weren't slow and limping. They were "devious."

I watched a guy in a suit. He was tearing his own clothes off. He had a frantic, desperate energy. His eyes were bulging out of his head. He was looking for something. His dick was swinging wildly. He lunged at a car door.

The stench reached me even on the second floor. It was like rotting meat mixed with cheap perfume. Horrible. Oh my!, it was bad.

"We have to move," I said. "We can't stay in this inn. The door won't hold if they realize we're in here."

"I feel it coming back," she whimpered. She crawled over and gripped my leg. Her fingers were cold. Too cold. "The chill. It's starting in my fingers again. Hex, please. Don't let me turn back into that thing."

I looked at her. Her pussy was still wet from our session. The scent of it was mixing with the rot from outside. It was a sick contrast. She was terrified of herself. She was looking at me like I was the only thing standing between her and hell.

"It's not a permanent fix, Janiella," I said. I reached down. I grabbed a handful of her hair. I tilted her head back. Her eyes were clear for now. But I could see the fear. "I think... I think I just bought you some time."

"How much time?" she asked.

"A week," I muttered. "Maybe less. I can feel it. My body... it's like it's producing a battery. And you just took the first charge. But don't get it twisted. This isn't a gift. It's a lease."

Anyway, I had to think. If the whole city was like this, I was the only walking pharmacy on earth. Logically, it was impossible. I'd die of exhaustion before I reached the next zip code. (haha).

"Hex, look!" Janiella pointed at the window.

A group of them had stopped under our window. Three men and a woman. They weren't looking at the sky. They were sniffing the air. Their heads were tilted back. Their nostrils were flaring. They smelled me. They smelled the cure.

"Shit," I whispered. I finally grabbed my jeans. "Get your shoes on. Now. We're going to have to fight our way out."

"But I'm naked," she cried.

"The zombies are naked too, Janiella," I snapped. "The difference is, you're the only one who still has a reason to cover up. Now move!"
