Chapter 28 - True Meaning Of A Light Bearer

It didn't make a lot of sense to me with what happened to the room, but I guess that nightmare has quite an impact on me. That was also the first time I got a glimpse of this physical form of infection.

I don't have a single clue what to make of any of it.

She did want me to accept something before I woke up but Airi got to me in time. I'm not sure if I would've accepted it or not... just something about it felt like it could be right.

Trusting an infection to help me kill zierel isn't the worst possible outcome, just it doesn't look good in the long run.

It would make me dependant on it which is something I think is better to avoid.

"Thank you Airi," I speak with appreciation in my voice.

"Of course. I think it might be time to really go over the true meaning of a light bearer," She replies while letting go of me.

Originally I thought she already went over some of the light bearer stuff with me since she talked about being assigned to me. That alone felt like it spoke a thousand words.

It was probably dumb to assume as much, but I guess I'll be learning about it now.

I give her my attention as she begins to calmly start telling me about it.

"Light Bearers are assigned, that you know already. Our purpose isn't to just keep humans alive... It is also to find the right vessels to bring our gods power down to help. Doing this might be the best way to bring back the sun that this world is missing now," Airi explains calmly.

If this world didn't have any of the monsters or sudden darkness around us.... I might not believe any of that. This also means that they haven't found a single vessel who can do any of that.

"Is the sun really just gone?" I question with a curious tone.

"Yes and no. I don't really know how to explain it right now but just know that we'll bring the light back into this world," Airi answers hesitantly.

Airi went on for quite awhile about the light bearers and their purpose in our world, but it didn't seem like anything too crazy. Time is definitely flying by with this explanation of hers.

She also seems to be hesitant at times when I ask her questions about the whole thing.

Finally the explanation is over with a better understanding of what light bearers are responsible for in this world.

Finding vessels, protecting humans with unique powers that could be the solution they are looking for, and killing special Zierel.

Hybrids zierel are the main ones that they hunt but apparently there is something above them that I haven't seen yet. She didn't really go over it much since it isn't important yet, but I'm sure I'll meet one eventually.

It does make me wonder if Tess will ever have a light bearer since she is able to see into the future. All of that feels like it would make her worthy of one.

I haven't said anything to Airi about her but maybe I should at some point.

"I think I've given you enough to think about for today, I'll go make some food for us," Airi says with a smile.

"That sounds great. I'm definitely hungry," I reply casually.

She just smiles as she leaves the room to go make some food.

With her gone I decide to clean up the entire place since I made a mess of it while in that nightmare. It doesn't really take me long to clean everything up either.

The feeling of someone watching is also completely gone, almost like it never existed in the first place.

Why would someone even be watching me? I don't really understand the purpose of it or if it benefits anyone. It could be because of Airi.

Her being with me probably makes me worth watching over since I could become a threat to Zierel. That is my best guess at the very least.

"If they are watching you, it is because of me," her voice echoes.

The infection does make a lot of sense... There isn't really anything special about me yet, not until I awaken. It still leaves me with the question of what power is hiding within me.

I didn't really learn much about what powers people possess or what they can do with it period. I briefly saw some people using different elements of magic, but that's about it.

Do people only awake one or the other?

"Magic can be awakened alongside of a power," She speaks up once more.

I'm kind of shocked that you know anything about this. I didn't think zierel could use any of that.

"Certain ones can use it as well. You just haven't seen any yet," She replies before fading away.

Zierel capable of using magic or having some sort of power might be the special ones that Airi was talking about. There isn't really anything else that makes sense for it.

This also means zierel are a lot stronger than I originally thought.

Awakening is definitely going to be the smartest option in the long run if I want to do anything about them, especially ones with powers or magic.

The door opens up as Airi peeks her head in.

"I did finish making us something. You'll have to come out to see," She says before walking away.

I get up from my bed and make my way out into the main room where I see her sitting down by a lantern.

Looking at the plate I noticed that it is spaghetti, something I haven't seen in quite some time. So I walk over and take a seat.

It isn't a complicated dish or anything but it is surprising to see after a month of rice.

"I am able to mix it up this time so I did," Airi says with excitement.

"It looks great," I reply with a smile.
