Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: [Reset] Ability

Inside the office.

Sui Yang stood by the observation window with his hands behind his back, gazing at the scenery outside the building, lost in thought.

Following his gaze, one could see the bright afternoon sky and the abandoned village surrounded by lush red trees.

However, the village's central square features a 14 x 14 meter mercury mirror and the houses have been simply modified. Combined with the equipment boxes piled in the corners and military SUVs and pickup trucks parked in the streets, it is clear that this place has been temporarily requisitioned by Atlas.

This village is actually the landing point connecting the main universe and the zero-one universe and the mercury mirror with people constantly coming and going is the first spatial gate.

For ease of future archiving and statistics, Sui Yang referred to the world he had transmigrated to and lived in for over a hundred years as the Main Universe, while the current world of Edge of Tomorrow was called the Zero One Universe.

The content displayed on the computer screen on the desk also demonstrates the importance of convenience;

File name: Zero Universe.

Status: Continuously updating.

Main universe, June 5, 1993, Pacific Time.

At 13:32, the Atlas core team discovered the ruins of an unknown civilization.

At 14:14, the first spatial gate was opened by the ATLAS Corporation Owner through some kind of blood sacrifice ritual.

At 15:20, the a advance team crossed the space gate.

At 15:30, the wired base station was completed.

At 15:35, the a advance team completed the testing and analysis of the air and soil, and the results showed that there was no need to worry about infection in the short term.

At 16:20, based on the physical condition of the a advance team and the results of preliminary research, Wang Zhaofeng or Mr. Wang, the research director, deduced that the space door has a disinfection function, which can effectively prevent biological invasion and personnel infection.

However, Mr. Wang, the supervisor, still recommends that staff exposed to the elements wear Level 1 or higher respiratory filters.

At 16:35, the Atlas Engineering Department crossed the space gate and officially began construction of the forward base.

At 16:40, the a advance team continued its outward exploration....

At 17:42, the drone captured footage of the battle...

Main Universe, June 7th / Universe 01, March 15th.

At 09:12, two Atlas investigators, Chersky and Johnson, successfully obtained some information about Earth Zero-One by using forged civilian identities.

The time, minute, and second of Earth Zero One are synchronized with the Earth in the main universe, but the year, month, and day are 27 years apart, which is March 15, 2020.

An investigation revealed that an orange meteorite fell in Hamburg, Germany on September 1, 2015. Subsequently, an alien species, officially referred to as mimicry by Zero One Humans, began its invasion.

Germany fell first, followed by France, and then the whole of Western Europe.

Due to the invasion of alien species, humanity temporarily ended its internal conflict and established the United Defense Force (UDF) based on the United Nations.

Within five years, the UDF had few victories, and military and civilian casualties exceeded ten million.

It wasn't until the great victory at Verdun on March 13, 2020, that UDF and Zero One finally turned the tide and began to attack. At the same time, the Battle of Verdun was also the first time that UDF deployed mechanical exoskeletons on a large scale.

Furthermore, the two investigators also learned from several drinking soldiers that a sergeant named Rita Vrataski had single-handedly killed hundreds of mimics using a new type of mechanical exoskeleton, earning her the nickname 'Battle Angel of Verdun', while her more widespread nickname in the military camp was 'Full Metal Bitch'.

Currently, the UDF appears to be concentrating its forces in London, Brussels, Belgium, and Lausanne, Switzerland, in preparation for annihilating the mimics in one fell swoop.

The exact timing of the counterattack could not be determined, according to the two investigators....

With a click of the left mouse button, the document is closed, leaving the screen with a black background and a red 'A' icon floating in the center of the desktop.

It turned out that Sui Yang had already sat back down at his desk.

As a transmigrator, when he observed the battle between UDF soldiers and mimics through a drone, and saw the keyword 'Victory at Verdun', he determined that the Zero One universe was the movie version of 'Edge of Tomorrow'.

Just to be on the safe side, he still dispatched several trusted investigators to regions such as Britain and Belgium, and the intelligence that came back further confirmed his suspicions.

If we're only talking about the movie 'Edge of Tomorrow', then it definitely deserves a place in Sui Yang's heart. He wasn't satisfied after watching the theater version, and he would rewatch it every now and then.

However, if we put ourselves in the shoes of the humans in the movie, especially when we know the true nature of the mimicry creatures but do not have the ability to reset them, all we feel is despair.

As Dr. Carter, who was dismissed by the UDF commander, said, "An enemy that can predict the future is almost impossible to defeat."

Unlike human armies, where each unit and soldier possesses its own intelligence, mimicry is treated as a single organism.

Seemingly endless, the mimicry with the Orange Light core resembles the fists and feet of a human body, undertaking the roles of attack, construction, and "cannon fodder".

These mimics only need to use local materials, such as swallowing soil, to complete the process of self-replication and pasting, which is also the source of their inexhaustible nature.

However, among every 6.18 million mimics, there is one that is larger and stronger, possessing a blue light core, which is known as Alpha's central nervous system.

As for the Omega, it is their brain, and its appearance resembles a giant sea anemone.

When a single Alpha dies, it triggers the Omega reset mechanism, which resets the day and gives the Omega all the memories from before the reset, allowing it to make more comprehensive battle plans and deployments.

Faced with this type of enemy, if it weren't for the protagonist's halo that Tom Cruise's William Cage accidentally killed an Alpha and happened to drink its blood, he wouldn't have been able to successfully enter the mimicry's reset mechanism.

It's like a bug.

To fix this bug, Omega needs to create a false illusion, lure the intelligent William Cage into a trap, and then drain his blood.

However, in the end, William Cage used Dr. Carter's equipment to successfully locate Omega's true location and, by leveraging confidential information and Rita Vrataski's reputation, successfully recruited Team J, ultimately turning the tables and killing Omega.

After Omega's death, all the mimics that invaded Earth collectively lost their activity. In theory, this was already a pretty good ending, with the protagonist and the lone heroes silently sacrificing themselves to win victory for humanity.

But as William Cage lay dying, he drank Omega blood, undergoing another reset, which "resurrected" himself, Rita Wollaston, and all the members of J Squad....

To be honest, Atlas could gain many benefits from the world of Edge of Tomorrow, such as a sophisticated modular mechanical skeleton, as well as related technologies such as special materials, high-capacity batteries, intelligent systems, and two-way data transmission.

However, Sui Yang's top priority is to seize the Mimicry's [Reset] ability.
