"These just came for you," the receptionist said, smiling. "Someone's got an admirer."


"Can you donate them? To a hospital or nursing home?"


The receptionist's smile faltered. "Are you sure? They're beautiful."


She went to her desk, tried to focus on work. Tried not to think about the fact that Alessandro had sent flowers. That even with his number blocked, he'd found a way to reach her.


Tuesday brought peonies. Pink and expensive. Card: "Thinking of you. Hope you're well."
