Synopsis
"I swear to protect you." His voice was quieter than I'd ever heard it - nothing like the sharp, hostile tone he'd used back when we were enemies fighting over scraps of survival. For the first time, there was something soft in his words... something almost human. He stepped closer, slowly, as if afraid I'd bolt. His arms lifted, hesitant at first, then firm as he wrapped them around me. His warmth pressed against my trembling body, shielding me from the cold wind and the distant groans echoing through the ruined streets. For a moment, it felt like the world outside didn't exist. "But all you've ever done is hurt me," I whispered, my voice cracking. "Why... how could I ever trust you after everything you've done?" Silence settled between us - heavy, fragile, broken only by the distant shuffle of the undead somewhere beyond the barricades. He didn't let go. He didn't look away. He just breathed, steady and warm against my forehead. Then he spoke. "It's just us now." he said as we both stared at taehyung as he lied there breathing slowly And somehow, that truth was more terrifying and more comforting - than the apocalypse itself.

Chapter 1 - The boy from seoul

Hi, my name is Hwang Y/n. I'm an 18‑year‑old senior at Daegu High. I'm definitely on the nerdier side—I don't have many friends, but the few I do have mean everything to me. I'm not popular, obviously. I usually keep my head down, mind my own business, and try not to draw attention to myself, though it doesn't always help. Still, I don't stress too much about it. I know my friends will always have my back.

I live in a suburban neighborhood with my family: my mom, Hwang Ju‑sang; my dad, Hwang Jae‑min; my brother, Hwang Min‑su; and my six‑year‑old sister, Hwang Mina. I'm the oldest of the siblings. My life is pretty ordinary—school, work, home, and piles of homework to keep my grades up.

That morning, I was in my room fresh out of the shower, pulling on my uniform. It was 7:45 a.m., and school starts at 8. I sat at my desk doing quick touch‑ups on my face and putting in the new contacts I bought—mostly to avoid being recognized by my bully. I was lost in my thoughts until my mom's voice cut through the silence.

"Y/n! You're going to be late! Your dad is about to leave—are you walking, or are you getting your ass down here!"

I jumped up from my chair, grabbed my bag, snatched my shoes from the shelf by the door, and rushed out of my room. I slammed the door behind me and nearly tripped running down the stairs.

When I reached the kitchen, slightly out of breath, everyone was already at the table eating breakfast. My little sister slid off her chair and ran straight toward me. I scooped her up and kissed her on the nose.

"Morning, noona!" she chirped, two sticky fingers in her mouth, her face still smeared with pancake syrup and her hair a wild mess.

"Good morning, little pretty princess," I laughed, guiding her back into her chair before heading over to my dad. I wrapped my arms around him in a quick hug.

"Good morning, appa."

Then I moved to my mom, who turned from the stove with a warm smile just as she slid a plate into my hands. I hugged her too.

"Good morning, eomma. Thank you for the food," I said as she rubbed my back and nudged me toward the table.

"Eat up, quick quick," she urged, already grabbing a glass and filling it with orange juice. She set it beside me just as I started inhaling bacon. My brother snickered from the left, and I shot him a glare, cheeks full, fist raised in a mock threat.

"What's so funny, punk?" I mumbled through the food. My dad chuckled, setting down his fork and finishing his juice.

"Don't talk while you're eating. You'll choke," he warned.

I swallowed, washed it down with juice, and kept eating. My brother leaned back with a smug grin.

"You eat like a pig," he said, pushing his nose up with his finger. I rolled my eyes and threw a napkin at him.

When I finished, I grabbed my plate and headed for the sink, but my mom swooped in immediately.

"I got it, I got it. Have a great day at school, honey." She kissed my forehead and pulled me into one more hug

I nodded, grabbed my bag, and darted to the door to claim the front seat.

"Bye, eomma! Bye, Mina!" I called, snatching my dad's keys from the hook before slipping outside.

I slid into the passenger seat, turned the key, blasted the AC, and buckled in just as my dad and brother stepped out of the house and headed toward the car. my dad entered the drivers seat my brother slipping into the back seat right behind my dad.

"Okay lets go you two" my dad said clearing his throat as he put his seatbelt on and began to drive he backed out the driveway and headed towards our school I scrolled on my phone during the entire duration of the 7 minute car ride to our school . my brother was in the back seat chatting with our dad I tuned out because its my little brother he's just annoying.

"we're here" my dad said pulling up to the front of the school I grabbed my backpack from the in front of my feet and good out the car swinging my bag over my shoulder .

"Thank you appa! drive safely have a good day at work", I said walking over to the stairs leading into the school.

"Y/n!!" just as I walked through the huge double doors I heard my best friend' voice booming through the halls.

"Jeez Eun-ji you could preform a concert without a microphone" I joked plugging one of my ears with my index finger sticking my tongue out at her, she rolled her eyes at me and walked up to me linking her arm around mine.

"Guess what there's a new student and he's absolute eye candy!" she squealed leading me over to our homeroom class I giggled at her childish demeanor

"he in our class or what" I asked she stared at me a grin spreading across her face reaching from ear to ear

"Yes!! and he's a transfer student from Seoul girl so you know he's fineee!" she said dragging out 'fine' I rolled my eyes at her dragging her into the class room and to our side by side desks.

"we'll see about this" I said as I pulled out my books from my bag and placed them inside my desk I put my pencil case on top of my desk before it was abruptly snatched from an arm reaching out from behind.

"son of a-" I stood up and turned around and then there I was face to face with-

Jeon Jungkook. My bully.

I always froze when in his presence he never just verbally bullied it was almost always physical too never anything overly aggressive but enough to leave a small cut or even bruise he noticed how my body became tense he knew the things he did to me had an effect on me and worst of all he enjoyed every moment every chance he'd get to torture me he enjoyed it all.

"give it back jeon" I said slightly above a whisper, he smirked his lip ring shifting with the moment of his lips that smug look on his face he opened my pencil case staring daringly at me with eyes that could pierce through your soul his sleeves were rolled up displaying his tattoos

"Or what?" he teased his voice dark and deep sending shivers down my spine I tried to be tough I then reached out to try and snatch my bag back but he jerked it backwards, I missed my attempt.

"too slow" he said laughing as he turned the bag upside down pour all the contents inside of it on the floor he then threw the empty bag at my chest I caught it before it fell to the ground I scoffed as I knelt down to pick up my stuff just then Eun-ji stood up and walked up to Jungkook pushing him back.

"Your such an asshole why are you always bothering her!" she yelled just then the teacher walked in her eyes immediately landed on the scene unraveling between the 3 of us she sighed

"Mr jeon already causing trouble this early in the morning are we" Mrs park spoke out walking over to give me a hand up as I finished picking up my stuff I bowed slightly thanking her

"Principles office now." she said Jungkook scoffed hands in his pocket smug grin on his face as he walked out the door slamming it behind him he looked back at me and smirked I had a sick gut feeling I knew this would hit me back 10 times harder later on

"Mrs Hwang you need to file a bullying incident report this behavior is not okay and it'll continue if you don't take action and make him take accountability for his behavior" Mrs park spoke to me softly I sighed and nodded my head

"may I please use the restroom Mrs park" I asked she smiled and nodded her hand she patted my shoulder and told me to take my time I walked out the room and headed to the nearest bathroom . I entered the bathroom and just stared at myself in the mirror I sighed taking a deep breath before leaving and making my way back to the classroom I stared at the windows as I walked down the long corridor.

I bumped into someone and lost balance closing my eyes grabbing this person' arm instinctively dragging them down with me I felt their hand slip under my head as we came crashing down to the floor with them landing on top of me

"That was close, you alright" A deep warm velvety voice asked I opened my eyes to see the most handsome man I've ever laid my eyes on his face sharp but elegant, foxy brown eyes soft but expressive carrying a quiet mysterious charm , a mole on his cheek under his eye and one under his nose barely noticeable , his lips soft and full very plush but I still wasn't over his voice It's the kind of voice that feels like it wraps around you — warm, smooth, and instantly recognizable.

"I- I'm so sorry I wasn't paying attention and I-" he chuckled and cut me off as he stood up offering me a helping hand

"no worries we've all been there my name is Kim Taehyung but you could call me V or Tae, what's your name?" he asked his soft warm voice like music to my ears I just couldn't get over it. it made my heart futter it was such a strange feeling I grabbed his hand helping myself up

"I'm Hwang Y/n nice to meet you" I said bowing slightly to greet him properly. he returned the gesture before pulling out a piece of paper from his bag

"while I got you here with me could you help me find Mrs parks class" I stared at him my jaw dropped this is who Eun-Ji was talking about

"We have the same home room teacher I can take you where you need to be" I smiled and he smiled back nodding slinging his backpack back onto his shoulder.

"Thank you that'd be great" I nodded but I couldn't help but notice a figure standing from a distance behind Taehyung- It was Jungkook he was just standing there watching us before he turned around and walked the other direction I ignored it and thought to myself

'he must be skipping classes again' I thought as I led Taehyung to Mrs parks class.

as soon as we walked through the classroom door I watch at how Eun-ji's face lit up her eyes immediately landing on Taehyung Mrs park called him over to stand in front of the class and I quickly rushed over to my seat besides Eun-ji she grabbed my arm tugging it.

"no fair your already making a move on the hottie huh" she whispered I scoffed and lightly chuckled shushing her as Taehyung started to speak.

"Hello everyone my name is Kim Taehyung Please take care of me" he said bowing everyone clapped and just then-

in walked Jungkook.
