Chapter 1 - Collateral (Me)

It all started with a sandwich, a BLT for anyone who happens to be curious, but that's not the point because it doesn't matter how it started. What does matter is that I'm now standing in front of the most powerful villain known to mankind, the Class Eight villain, Navy Void, and yes, she was dressed all in navy. To be completely honest with you, she was terrifyingly sexy, and I was pretty much letting her have her way with me in this fight.

Why? That is also beside the point!

It's also important to note that currently, I was starting to grow ragingly jealous of Seven Suns, who got to fight her every other week or so. He also had a dumb name, but that might just be the jealousy talking... or not.

As a fairly new powered individual, how did I get myself into this situation? I'm not quite sure about that myself. I had just started to gain a good reputation in my new and budding career, but I think I'm halfway to messing that up by getting my butt kicked up and down by Ms. Navy. I mean, I could fight back, but I think it was okay as long as no one other than me was getting hurt. The civilians are completely safe, I swear!!!

I'm not a masochist, really. I just, uh, didn't want to hurt a woman, that's all. It didn't matter that I also looked like a woman right now because inside I was still a man, right?

Pain ripped through my being. Looking down, I could see a black hole where my stomach once was. Reaching towards the hole to make sure it was real, my hand vanished in the tendrils of darkness, but I didn't scream in pain or fear. Startled by the occurrence, my body jerked back a few steps, trying to get away from that dark hole. Cries of fear sounded all around me from the onlookers, but I didn't have the capability to pay them any mind.

Feeling the pain, I was a bit dazed. Never had I been wounded to this extent. A coughing fit seized me as blood spewed from my mouth to the street below, yet I didn't fall. Standing tall, my eyes locked on her. I had been being nice because I found her kind of at---

Feeling the pain, I was a bit dazed. Never had I been wounded to this extent. A coughing fit seized me as blood spewed from my mouth to the street below, yet I didn't fall. Standing tall, my eyes locked on her. I had been trying to be civil because I found her incredibly attractive—okay, that was a lie, I found her immensely alluring. But now, I think this lady is crazy. It should have been obvious, really.

When Navy Void realized her attack was successful, she displayed a rare look of joy as she smiled at the pain she had caused.

Noticing her hands encased in a dark light, I knew she was preparing to swallow me up. This one would be significant, but I was preoccupied with my own problems and couldn't dwell on what she was going to do to me because something vile inside me was clawing its way to the surface.

Everything within a ten-foot radius started to warp and twist, the colors bleeding together. The ground and even the air contended over which color of the rainbow they wanted to be. Faces appeared from nowhere, and voices, some whispering, some deafening, filled my head as my body lost all sense of gravity.

Navy Void stared wide-eyed at the strange phenomena happening around her new enemy. The colors spread out with a pulsing beat, seemingly alive with vividness. Navy seized the opportunity to take a few steps back because her powers had been nullified just by being too near that strange sphere. Her instincts warned her that she would be powerless if caught in it. Somehow, we both knew. We could feel the gravity of the situation. She was without power here.

The girl's body, which appeared broken and dying, was lifted into the air and healed before Navy's eyes. Navy contemplated fleeing. She loathed admitting that she couldn't defeat this young girl who had appeared out of nowhere, but she understood her limitations, and this girl was undoubtedly on that list.

Navy Void turned her body, taking several steps back, trying to distance herself from the spreading madness as it seeped---

Navy Void turned her body, taking several steps back, trying to distance herself from the spreading madness as it seeped out of that strange floating sphere. She felt weak being near that sphere, knowing that her powers were being overwritten by a superior force. She just needed to get far enough to slip through a void port. Suddenly, the madness halted in its pursuit, causing Navy to turn back in puzzlement, not understanding what was going on. The girl's sphere was at a standstill, pulsing but not advancing any further. She was still floating there, upside-down, staring a hole through Navy Void. Seeing that hostile look made Navy want to crawl under her bed and hide. She realized the sphere had stopped not due to lack of ability, but probably because the civilians were too near to the radius to extend it any further.

A void port opened with a wave of her hand, allowing Navy to step through into the safety of her house, where she went on to have a nervous breakdown.

Meanwhile, Alice was still floating in the air. "Why had Navy left? I was all healed; we could have fought more." Alice had never experienced an outbreak of her powers like this. At least now she knew what would happen if she became seriously injured in the future. Still, she felt quite depressed after seeing her crush run away so quickly. It hurt. It hurt a lot.

Alice easily reined in her powers, only noticing all the cheering going on around her once the world wasn't being blocked out and warped in every which way. Screams of glee and blatant admiration filled the air.

"Alice!" They shouted out.

"Alice, look over here!" They screamed.

"Alice! We love you!" Please stop hollering!

"Thank you! We love you!" They cried and sobbed with tears and snot running down their faces.

"Alice! Alice! ALICE!" They cried even louder.

It felt like the cheers would never stop, and Alice was getting quite flustered. With a thought, she was back in her home, in her room, going through her cooldown.

"This sucks!" She cried into her pillow.
