Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The First Kill

Chapter 15: The First Kill

The night was moonless, the wind cold. The usually tranquil woods were a stage for silent, deadly movement.

A shadow flickered between the trees, a phantom of focused rage and speed. It was Shinra.

His brow was a hard line of fury, his dark eyes chips of obsidian lit from within by a cold, murderous fire. Everyone had a line that could not be crossed. In this world, Shinra's line was Uzumaki Kushina. She was his first friend, his only anchor, the closest thing to family he had.

Whoever dared lay a hand on her had signed their own death warrant.

He moved like a wounded predator, all grace burned away by urgency. His Observation Haki was stretched to its limit, a sensory net combing the darkness. The trail of red hairs Kushina had left was a lifeline, leading him unerringly forward.

He found them.

Five figures, clad in the distinctive attire of Kumogakure, moving with disciplined silence through the forest. Four men, one woman. And slung over the shoulder of the largest man, a limp form with a telltale cascade of red hair.

Kushina.

Shinra's vision tinged red at the edges. He didn't hide, didn't plan an ambush. He stepped directly onto the path ahead of them, planting himself like a stone in a stream.

"Who's there?!"

The reaction was instant. These were no amateurs. The group halted as one. The carrier with Kushina fell back, while the other four fanned out with practiced efficiency, encircling Shinra in seconds. Their coordination was flawless, their movements those of seasoned operatives.

But Shinra knew their measure. In the story he remembered, a single Namikaze Minato had dismantled this entire team. He believed in his own strength, tempered by a will they could not fathom. Tonight, he would claim his first kill in this world. Not in stealth, but in overwhelming, brutal force. It would be his declaration.

"Huh? Some brat came out of nowhere." One of the ninjas, a man with a scar across his cheek, relaxed visibly upon seeing Shinra's youth, a dismissive smirk playing on his lips.

"Eliminate him. Quickly. We need to move." The leader, the man holding Kushina, didn't even glance at Shinra. He issued the order as he would for swatting a fly.

Shunshin!

In a blur, the scarred ninja vanished. He reappeared directly behind Shinra, the cold edge of a kunai already pressing against the exposed skin of his neck. The ninja's breath was hot against Shinra's ear, his voice a gloating whisper.

"Wrong place, wrong time, kid. Nothing personal."

The kunai began its lethal slice.

Then—

THUD-CRACK.

A wet, sickening sound, like a melon smashed on stone, echoed through the silent woods.

The Kumogakure squad leader, already turning to leave, froze. His eyes snapped back to the scene, widening in pure, undiluted horror.

Shinra hadn't moved from his spot. He hadn't even turned his head. His right arm, however, was now extended behind him, not in a block, but in a finished motion.

A fist, clenched and bloody, was pulled back from the space where the scarred ninja's head had been.

There was no head there anymore.

Only a headless corpse, swaying for a grotesque second before collapsing to the forest floor with a heavy thump. Blood, bone fragments, and grey matter sprayed in a wide arc, painting the ferns and leaves a macabre crimson. Drops spattered across Shinra's face and clothes, warm and sticky.

He didn't flinch. He didn't wipe it away.

His expression remained carved from ice, his eyes fixed on the squad leader holding Kushina. The killing intent radiating from him was a palpable wave, colder than the night wind, heavier than the darkness itself.

Plop.

The corpse finished its fall, stirring a small swirl of dead leaves.

A shaft of faint moonlight broke through the canopy, illuminating Shinra's blood-spattered face. He looked less like a boy and more like an avenging spirit stepped from a nightmare.

Silence.

A profound, choking silence descended, broken only by the ragged, suddenly terrified breaths of the remaining four Kumo ninja. The fly they had tried to swat had just revealed itself to be a dragon.

And it was staring right at them.
