Chapter 26 - It's Allowed to Kill by "Accident" in a Kengan Match, Right?

Honestly, Jaden didn't think things needed to escalate to the level seen in movies.

Still, after this incident, he genuinely felt that Totsuki needed to raise its security awareness and assign a few proper bodyguards to Erina.

Erina was, at times, completely without protection.

For example-back when she met the protagonist at the academy, or later at the Totsuki Resort. Or when her father supposedly valued her so highly, yet Alice alone could rescue her and hide her away. Or even when she withdrew from school with him.

Sometimes she had bodyguards.

Other times, not a single one.

This likely stemmed from the Nakiri family's educational philosophy.

Before Erina, most Nakiri heirs never enrolled in Totsuki. They were expected to carve their own path. Going out to prove yourself while surrounded by bodyguards defeated the point.

That mindset had gradually extended to Erina.

And that was how a situation like today came to be.

Jaden looked at Masaki Meguro, these thoughts passing through his mind.

Meguro, meanwhile, was muttering words like "kill" and "die" under his breath.

A crazed smile stretched across his face.

His breathing grew heavier.

Step by step, he closed the distance.

"What are you-"

At that moment-

Lights suddenly flared from every direction in the courtyard.

Totsuki's security personnel had finally broken free from Toyo Electric's interference and discovered what was happening.

On second thought, it made sense.

Jaden's kick earlier had caused a massive disturbance.

The security forces hadn't been eliminated. They'd merely been stalled and misdirected.

Now, with the commotion drawing their attention back, they arrived all at once.

And the moment they saw the scene-

Their hearts sank.

Jaden was standing in front of Erina, Alice, and Hisako, shielding them.

That side looked fine.

The problem was the other side.

Gin Dojima's gaze sharpened the instant he saw Masaki Meguro.

Blood covered his body.

His hands.

His face.

"Chef Dojima..."

Erina pressed her lips together when she saw him and hurried over.

She was terrified.

Her legs were still trembling slightly.

Alice and Hisako weren't in much better shape.

So this time, Erina stepped forward herself and explained everything.

As she spoke, Gin Dojima's expression darkened further and further.

He recognized that blood-soaked man.

That was the combatant Toyo Electric had sent this time.

Earlier, his attention had been drawn away by Heiken Toyama insisting on a second-round discussion.

Then there was the intrusion at the Totsuki Resort.

Then, while mobilizing personnel, he discovered that all of Totsuki Resort's combatants were already dead.

The sequence of events left him completely overwhelmed.

If Erina and Alice were to die here-

At the Totsuki Resort-

That was a consequence Gin Dojima absolutely could not bear.

Nor could he ever take responsibility for it.

His expression worsened by the second.

He looked at Jaden, gratitude rising in his eyes.

But now wasn't the time for thanks.

"Mr. Toyama."

Gin Dojima's voice was heavy with anger.

"Don't you think you owe us an explanation?"

When Gin Dojima was angry, his pressure was intense.

Jaden heard the voice and, without turning his head, almost thought it was DIO speaking.

Same voice actor.

Heiken Toyama slowly stepped out from behind him.

"The explanation can wait."

He smiled faintly.

"As for now, since we already agreed to a Kengan match earlier, and since Totsuki Resort no longer has any combatants..."

"Why not let this fight continue as our Kengan match?"

As he spoke, his gaze locked onto Jaden.

He knew this man.

"The Wild Tiger."

The one who knocked out the super rookie Ryo Himuro with a single punch.

For Toyama, it didn't matter whether they won or lost here.

Meguro's role had always been to draw attention.

He was disposable.

So if he could use this chance to test Jaden's real strength, all the better.

After all-

As deranged as Meguro was...

He was undeniably strong.

Hearing Toyama's proposal, Meguro paused.

Only briefly.

He desperately wanted to kill Jaden, but he still listened-just barely-to Toyo Electric.

Gin Dojima frowned.

"That young man is not a Totsuki combatant."

"He's a guest."

"It's inappropriate to force a guest into a Kengan match."

Jaden didn't respond.

He didn't even look at them.

His eyes remained fixed on Masaki Meguro.

Meguro was staring back.

Then he noticed Jaden's lips moving.

Jaden's eyes were half-lidded.

His expression was openly mocking.

A faint smile curved his mouth.

No sound came out.

But his lips moved slowly.

Deliberately.

The words were simple.

Even Meguro could read them.

"Trash."

"Waste."

"Mutt."

Again and again.

Jaden silently repeated them.

Meguro's eyes widened.

He wasn't normal to begin with.

He was born with a killing impulse.

Killing brought him joy.

Being hit brought him joy.

Pain didn't restrain him-it excited him.

Even in underground arenas like Kengan, fighters like him-who were highly likely to fight until someone died-were rare exceptions.

Now that he understood what Jaden was saying-

His breathing quickened.

The smile on his face twisted even further.

Finally-

While Heiken Toyama was still speaking with Gin Dojima, Meguro suddenly shouted, his voice echoing across the yard.

"I'll kill you..."

"I'll kill you in an even more spectacular way than how I killed my father!"

The instant the words left his mouth, he stomped forward.

The already short distance vanished in a blink.

His left hand grabbed the fabric near Jaden's wrist.

His right hand seized Jaden's collar.

Then he pulled.

Upward.

Violent.

Arcing.

Seeing this, Jaden instantly understood the opponent's style.

Jack Hanma's instincts made it obvious.

-That line of attack was textbook.

Classic.

He smiled.

Because at the exact moment Meguro moved-

Heiken Toyama shouted loudly.

"The Kengan match begins!"

Gin Dojima could no longer refuse.

And that was exactly what Jaden wanted.

Because if his memory served him right-

In a Kengan match-

It didn't matter if you killed someone by "accident."

Right?
