Chapter 67 - A Desperate Gamble, and Lint Sellzen

However, before Rias and Akeno could feel relieved for long, a sudden gust of wind swept through the smoke ahead.

The smoke was blown away.

Kokabiel stood there.

Unharmed.

"Hoh. So the Red Dragon Emperor has such convenient abilities?"

Kokabiel spread his ten black wings and rose from the shattered throne, flying to the same height as Rias and the others.

A trace of interest appeared in his scarlet eyes.

"To raise a high-class devil to the level of an ultimate-class devil..."

"If you boosted them once more, wouldn't they directly reach my level?"

"That way, I might finally enjoy a real fight."

"Unscathed...?"

"Still underestimated the ten wings, huh."

The excitement from before vanished instantly.

A heavy pressure settled in Rias and Akeno's hearts.

As for this outcome, Hiro wouldn't say he had completely predicted it.

But he wasn't surprised either.

Frankly speaking, it was already beyond his expectations that Rias and Akeno had managed to bypass Kokabiel's defenses and destroy his throne.

As for defeating Kokabiel with just the two of them-

That was never realistic.

It was something he had said purely to provoke Kokabiel.

Just like Issei Hyoudou in the original work, Rias and Akeno's bodies had limits.

There was a ceiling to how much of Hiro's power they could withstand.

They simply couldn't bear his full output.

Otherwise, killing Kokabiel wouldn't have been impossible.

"Rias Gremory. And that shrine maiden over there."

"I'll give you one more chance."

"Go find the Red Dragon Emperor. Have him grant you even greater power."

"Then come back and fight me."

As he spoke, Kokabiel's pale face twisted, revealing a ferocious, distorted expression.

"If you can make this enjoyable..."

"Letting this town off the hook isn't impossible."

As his voice fell, a pillar of light shot into the sky less than a hundred meters away.

At the same time, an aged voice filled with fanatic excitement echoed.

"It's done!"

In that direction, Valper spread his arms wide, staring up at the pillar of light.

His eyes were those of a believer who had lost all sanity.

Nothing remained except fanaticism and exhilaration.

"Hehehe... this time, finally-"

"The enormous energy released when the Holy Swords merge will be mine!"

"I'll use it to destroy the town beneath my feet."

"There are about twenty minutes left before your town is erased."

"What is your choice, Rias Gremory?"

Below them, the broken throne silently vanished.

Kokabiel glanced toward Kiba Yuuto and Koneko, who were moving closer to Valper.

He snapped his fingers.

Snap.

"Lint."

A petite girl with black-and-white mixed hair and wine-red eyes stepped out from a magic circle.

She trembled slightly.

"Y-yes, Kokabiel-sama."

After summoning her, Kokabiel didn't spare her another glance.

"Pick up the Holy Sword in front of Valper."

"And play with the two devils down there."

"U-understood, Kokabiel-sama."

Despite her timid voice, the girl moved astonishingly fast.

Before Kiba Yuuto and the others could react, she had already flashed to the golden Holy Sword.

Gripping the hilt with both hands, she lifted it effortlessly.

From the rear of the battlefield, Hiro's eyes widened slightly.

Not because of her appearance.

But because he recognized who she was.

Lint Sellzen.

A warrior created using the same "factor" as Freed.

Barely considered his younger sister.

But-

Shouldn't she be a six-winged angel at this point?

If the timeline hadn't reached that stage yet, that would be one thing.

But how had she replaced Freed and become a fallen angel subordinate?

If Hiro hadn't researched this work extensively in his previous life, he might not have recognized her at all.

Damn it.

Rias clenched her teeth as she stared at Kokabiel's casual expression.

The borrowed power drained from her body like a receding tide.

Unwillingness filled her heart.

She turned her head toward Hiro, who was wrapped in the Red Dragon Emperor's armor.

Seeing the calm look on his face, she quietly exhaled.

In the end...

They still had to rely on Hiro to resolve everything.

The thought passed through her mind.

Rias narrowed her eyes and looked at her queen to the left.

"Akeno."

"I understand."

Their thoughts connected instantly.

Rias and Akeno flew toward the rear together.

Landing in front of him, Hiro calmly accumulated the Red Dragon Emperor's power as he spoke.

"There's still time."

"If you want to try, that's fine."

"But if I decide you can't defeat Kokabiel..."

"Don't blame me for not giving you another chance."

"Sorry, Hiro."

Rias bit her lip and looked straight into his eyes.

"Please forgive my willfulness this time."

Every time, I stand behind you and watch you resolve everything.

I'm really unwilling.

Even if I must accept your power-

I want to become someone who stands beside you.

Akeno shared the same resolve.

"Sorry to trouble you again, Hiro-kun."

Soon, after regaining Hiro's power, Rias and Akeno took flight once more.

Before leaving, Rias looked back and stated her decision.

"One strike."

"Akeno and I will pour all our magic into the next attack."

"If it still doesn't work..."

"Then we'll trouble you again, Hiro."

In response to her desperate resolve, Hiro raised his thumb.

In the sky above, Rias and Akeno faced Kokabiel once more.

Below, most of Hiro's attention shifted to Koneko's battlefield-

Or rather, to the petite girl who had just joined it.

Lint Sellzen.

Purely in terms of appearance, she inexplicably resembled Gasper's childhood friend.

Yet their circumstances were entirely different.

One was human.

One was a half-blood vampire.

One would become a Sacred Gear host in the future.

One was already a Sacred Gear host.

Was there some connection between them?

As fragments of memory surfaced, Hiro's thoughts grew subtly unsettled.
