Chapter 66 - Their Jealousy

The downtown area of Millbrook consisted of exactly four blocks of store fronts arranged around a central square with a gazebo that had worn by time. Lilian guided Dante to park near the bakery owned by Linda Johnson and the epicenter of local gossip.

"Downtown Millbrook in all its glory," Lilian said to them, looking at the modest collection of shops.

Lucien studied the quiet street with interest rather than judgement. "It's charming. Very quaint."

"Quaint is code for small and old-fashioned?" Lilian translated what he actually meant.

"No. I meant it as a compliment," Lucien said, shaking his head. "Cities all look the same after a while, believe me. This one has character."

They exited the car, and Lilian could felt eyes on them immediately. Not just one or two people, all gazes were tracking their movement from all shop windows.

Three otherworldly attractive strangers in a town where everyone knew everyone would naturally draw attention.
