Chapter 84 - The Council

Alexi extended his hand toward her with his palm up, a formal greeting that required her to place her hand in his.

Lilian held the urge to refuse. Not because it was improper, but it felt like she was stepping into a trap she could already see.

They were in public, surrounded by hundred of witnesses. Social protocols were the only thing keeping the peace in a room full of killers, and they couldn't be violated without consequences.

Lilian placed her hand in his, feeling the cold fingers closed around hers with a proprietary grip.

"Prince Alexi," she said evenly, forcing herself to keep her voice steady and eyes level. "A pleasure."

"The pleasure is entirely mine," Alexi replied, but didn't let go. "I have been very eager to meet you. We have much to discuss."

His eyes held hers with uncomfortable intensity of evaluation, and through the bond, Lilian felt the three princess beside her were struggling not to removed his hand by force.
