Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Opponents of the Wizengamot

This evening, Dumbledore had just coaxed Adelaide to sleep and was planning to have a glass of Butterbeer to help him sleep when he suddenly heard a faint sound from outside the window.

Dumbledore immediately became alert. With a gentle wave of his wand, he made the walls of the room transparent, and he saw four Wizards in black robes standing on the grass outside the house.

He recognized one of them as Paul Müller—an extreme opponent of the Wizengamot from Germany.

These people did not come with good intentions.

Dumbledore quietly set up several protective charms inside the house and slowly walked out.

"You all visit so late at night; I wonder what this is about?"

Müller took a step forward and said, "Mr. Dumbledore, we have just received news that a descendant of an illegitimate child of Grindelwald has been adopted by you. Is this true?"

Dumbledore withdrew the smile from the corners of his mouth. Who spread such a rumor? How would Gellert dare to have an illegitimate child—"

Cough!

He meant, how could Adelaide be the descendant of an illegitimate child? She was the legitimate heir of the Grindelwald Family!

"I do indeed have a child of the Grindelwald Family here, but she is not a direct descendant of Gellert Grindelwald."

"Regardless, her surname is Grindelwald! Back then, the Wizengamot—"

"Please do not forcibly stack the grievances of the previous generation onto an innocent child."

Just as Dumbledore was arguing with several opponents of the Wizengamot, a green light descended from the sky, silently striking toward Müller.

If Dumbledore hadn't quickly cast a "Protego Totalum," Müller would have been hit by now.

"Who's there!"

Müller and his companions hurriedly pulled out their wands and pointed them into the darkness behind them.

"Don't be nervous; it was just a little joke."

With a faint sound of footsteps, a figure gradually emerged from the depths of the darkness—a tall and slender middle-aged man.

His pace seemed somewhat frivolous and flamboyant, as if every step carried a nonchalant posture; the corners of his mouth were slightly raised in a half-smile, and his narrow eyes flickered with a cunning light, revealing a hint of imperceptible danger.

"Amandine, with the most powerful Wizard of the age, Dumbledore, here, your sneak attack was destined to fail."

"Tsk!"

The Disillusionment Charm was automatically lifted, revealing a stunning young girl dressed in a long black dress, sitting sideways on a flying broomstick, circling directly above the group.

Her pitch-black hair, falling like a waterfall, danced in the wind, as if merging with the surrounding night.

Dumbledore frowned. How did these two end up together?

If one were to ask Dumbledore which wizarding family he disliked the most, in this day and age, it would undoubtedly be the Rosier Family.

This pure-blood family, which had been passed down for over a thousand years, was divided into two branches: British and French. No matter which branch it was, they could be described as rotten to the core.

The head of the British branch, Evan Rosier, was among the first batch of Death Eaters. He was later killed by Moody, and before he died, he even cut off a small piece of Moody's nose.

Bellatrix, the eldest daughter of his sister Druella Rosier, was also a follower of Lord Voldemort. Even after Lord Voldemort disappeared, she refused to mend her ways and was imprisoned in Azkaban.

The head of the French branch, Vinda Rosier, even became the second-in-command of the Wizengamot. During her tenure, she did many bad things; she was truly heinous!

Although the Borgin Family wasn't quite as ridiculous, they weren't exactly good people either.

The largest Dark Arts shop in Knockturn Alley was opened by their family. Old Borgin had once even hired Lord Voldemort as a shop assistant.

During the era when Lord Voldemort was in power, although the Borgin Family did not openly take a side, they frequently attended gatherings of pure-blood supremacist families in secret.

The two people appearing now were from the Borgin Family and the Rosier Family, respectively.

Müller regained his senses and recognized the person who attacked him as the granddaughter of Vinda Rosier's younger brother, Amandine Rosier, who was currently a third-year student at Durmstrang.

How embarrassing; he had actually been ambushed by a thirteen-year-old girl without even noticing!

Müller roared in shame and anger, "Amandine Rosier! Instead of waiting for a ship at the Port of Marseille to go to school in Northern Europe, you came here to attack me. Do you want to follow in your great-aunt's footsteps!"

At this moment, Amandine was staring intently at Dumbledore, not giving Müller even half a glance.

Seeing his companion's eager-to-die posture, Edward Burke quickly spoke up to stop her: "Don't be impulsive; Dumbledore is one of us now."

Who is 'one of us' with you!

Dumbledore's mouth twitched; he had already guessed what these two were here for.

His brain worked rapidly, and within a few breaths, Dumbledore had weighed the pros and cons—it was a pity Adelaide was still too young; otherwise, this would be a great opportunity to quickly dismantle the remaining forces of the Dark Wizards.

"Müller, I guarantee in the name of the Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards that the Wizengamot will never experience a resurgence. The next head of the Grindelwald Family will attend Hogwarts in the future. I will not let her walk the path of evil. You and your companions can return with peace of mind."

Müller opened his mouth but said nothing more.

He couldn't win a fight, and he couldn't win an argument; what else could he say?

Müller glared fiercely at Amandine Rosier and led his three subordinates to Apparate back to Germany.

If something were to really happen, Britain would be the first to suffer; what was he worried about?

He had come to terms with it; as long as the descendants of Grindelwald did not step onto German soil, it was fine.

Seeing Müller leave, Dumbledore breathed a sigh of relief, turned to Edward and Amandine, and said, "It's late. You two, follow me inside for a cup of hot tea."

The three of them sat down in the living room, and Dumbledore smilingly brought out his treasured candy jar for the two guests to taste.

Since discovering that Adelaide was afraid of cockroaches, this was the first time he had brought his favorite snack out into the open.

"Come, come, let's talk while we eat. What have you two come here for?"

Looking at the dense, crawling mass of cockroaches in the glass jar, Amandine's face turned pale with fright.

What on earth are these British people eating!

Edward, who grew up in Britain, didn't have much of a reaction. He used his wand to direct the plumpest Cockroach in the jar to fly into his mouth. Honey-flavored, crunchy!

"Urgh!"

Amandine covered her mouth and, after a moment of recovery, said stiffly in English, "Our purposes are not the same; we just happened to run into each other at the Leaky Cauldron. I came to Britain this time on my grandfather's orders to protect the young mistress."

Dumbledore thought to himself that this was bad. Amandine's grandfather, Louis Rosier, and his sister, Vinda Rosier, were both sentenced to life imprisonment in Nurmengard. If even they had received the news, then it was impossible for Gellert not to know.

The other party would definitely blame him for adopting Adelaide for a year without writing to inform him.

But he hadn't contacted Gellert in nearly forty years... The problem with Amandine's side was complex and couldn't be explained in a few words. Dumbledore used the excuse that Adelaide was sleeping and shouldn't be disturbed to send Amandine off to stay in the guest room.

He knew that every word said to Amandine would eventually reach Gellert's ears. He had better spend more time thinking and formulate a plan to soothe him or something.
