I watched her reaction in slow, greedy amusement.

Every micro-expression. Every flicker of panic, she tried and failed to hide.

I hadn't expected this.

Wyoming new employees wasn't something we normally did. Hell, it wasn't something we ever did. That was HR's circus. Beneath us. Administrative noise.

But her file?

Impossible to ignore.

Even her name had stopped me cold.

I remembered the first time I'd seen it on the screen… leaning back in my chair, boots crossed on the desk, skimming lazily until I wasn't lazy anymore.

Sharp performance metrics. Consistent excellence. Zero disciplinary flags. And that damned photo.

I'd laughed then. Short. Disbelieving.

'You have got to be fucking kidding me.'

And now here she was.

Trying so hard to look composed while her body betrayed her at every turn.
