Rose didn't answer immediately.
Which, honestly, told me everything.
Because Rose… sweet, soft-spoken, chronically polite Rose, did not hesitate unless something was deeply incriminating or emotionally explosive.
And judging by the way she suddenly started twisting her hair around her finger like it owed her rent, we were firmly in both territories.
She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, then did something that made my brows shoot up.
She turned.
Fully.
On her heel.
And scanned the hallway. Left. Right. Over her shoulder. Even leaned slightly to peek past the hallway entrance like she was checking for lurking spies or hidden microphones.
I blinked slowly.
"Oh?" I murmured, folding my arms. "We're doing perimeter checks now?"
She shot me a look… wide-eyed, scandalized, and completely busted.
