Chapter 8 - MALEDICTION BEGINS

SOMEWHERE ON THE SHORES OF ANOTHER ISLAND, MOTHER IS SPOTTED AT 1900HRS ON EASTER NIGHT

"Aren't you cold mistress?" It was a full moon that night, what a lucky day for mother. She was afraid she would have to apply herself more than she already had. However, with the occurrence of a full moon energy for the ritual was all but guaranteed.

"No dear." She answered, "The joy I have outweighs the cold I feel."

Her toes had dipped into the cold sand. Her dress was off and remained in her undergarments only covered by a transparent linen. She stared off into the distance.

 "Angel dear." Mother called out.

 "Yes mistress."

"Do you believe in true love?"

It took her a minute to answer, "My interpretation of love?" She wondered, "In a romantic way?"

 "Yes."

"I have no opinion on the notion." Brutally honest to her core. She had no need for anyone but the mistress.

"Love is nothing more than an excuse to have sex and have children. A means for weak humans to continue and prolong their existence. But we have no need for that, right Mistress?"

 "Oh, so you've never loved?"

 "I love you mistress."

"Oh my, Angel." Mother covered her face, "We couldn't possibly be together."

'Be together?' Angel gave a puzzled look.

"But, there's someone else." She puffed her cheeks, "And I'm not cheating."

 'You two aren't even together.'

She then stared off at the moon. "I've never been in love before," She began, "I had never thought I could ever be, but one day…"

"Here, the bishop will be with you shortly." Gil had told her with a smile. She didn't know if that was the moment that sealed it for her. All she could do was smile, her heart raced and for some reason she felt a strong urge to have him.

"I really don't know, but we best begin."

Angel relieved that they stopped talking about love, she didn't get it she really didn't.

 "I'll fetch them mistress."

 **********************************************

"Njeri!" He mother called, "Twende already!"

"Nakuja, jeez relax." Njeri wasn't necessarily feeling it. Today was the annual Easter festival, or rather the beginning of it. Stretching three days, from Friday to Sunday. A celebration of Jesus's triumph over death, not only that but also the bishop's not so much triumph.

"I really don't wanna go!"

"Hauna options, sitaki jina yetu ichafuliwe." Her mother scolded, "Were already on bad terms with the church because of our association with… him."

"Sema jina yake, don't treat him like scum."

"Maybe he is!" Her mother shouted back, "He's a murderer now."

"No, he's a savior. Maybe now people will listen."

She stopped her daughter, "Don't ruin this night for me.

Twende." She ushered her daughter out of the house,

"You love fish sticks, don't you?" She remembered asking Gil, back then all he did was nod or shake his head. But on this particular day.

"Mh, a whole lot." He said with a smile.

They left the house. Only her husband remained, clinging to an old machete he stole.

News of the bishop's murder had spread throughout Loliwe, to every corner of the island country. Sparking controversy and a rift between locals and foregners a like. One camp was happy for the locals of the village, others thought they were fools and that an even worse bishop would be sent. All these theories and speculations had merit to them. However, for the Wanani family all it ment was the loss of family. First Catherine and now Gil.

The streets were well lit with candles and the traditional lamps made from iron and kerosene. Not only that, but the streets were packed with foreigners with their families. Some were just travelers looking for some sort of adventure.

Njeri and her mother walked those same streets, mother and daughter. They represented their family name, a name that didn't mean much outside the confines of their small village. But still, it was theirs and no one else's.

"Look!" Njeri pointed at the sea shore, "The moon."

It peeked over the horizon, from their point of view it appeared as though the moon had risen from the water.

"Its very pretty." Her mother agreed.

They both smiled as they continued their walk. Last year was the same and so were the years before that. And maybe in the year to come. A prayer that only Njeri's mother seemed to utter. All she wanted was a quiet death in the arms of her daughter when the time came.

 ********************************************

"All of them are here." Angel brought with her maidens in sheets of white and boys in black. Their eyes blind folded and their mouths stitched together.

"Have you heard of hell?" Mother whispered, "Dear Angel?"

 "Is it where monsters reside?"

Mother clasped her hands together; she then closed her eyes.

"No." She responded, "That's the astro-plane. Where monsters breed. Long ago those monsters couldn't walk among us as the gates between our worlds was closed."

 "What changed?"

 "She appeared."

 "She?"

"The Evangelist." Mother uttered, slowly opeing her eyes to find herself in a place of light. Before her was a girl, blue eyes and black hair.

"What did she do?" Angel asked, a bit curious.

"She uttered a single word that changed the world as we know it."

の呪い

(MALEDICTION)

Behind them, the children's necks snaped, causing them to fall over as blood leaked from their bodies into the sea dyeing it red.

"How may I help you, child of darkness?" The little girl spoke no words but mother understood.

"I have come to honor our vow." She began, "In exchange these children's lives I want you to bring about another malediction."

"That would serve me no purpose, I do not want their lives within my walls."

"The sacrifices were so I could speak to you, the real exchange is for Saikyo Akame."

The girl's eyes widened, "Its Chihiro."

 "Mh?"

"I never did like that name… anyway, I suppose I am a bit willingly to hear out the rest of your request.

"I have weakened the seal on his grave, however, to truly free him would indirectly require a power such as the one you possess."

She thought for a minute, "I suppose that makes sense…"

 "Yes, it does."

 "I'll see to it then."

 Yes, you will."
