"My apologies, Prin—I mean, Miss Cooper?"

I offered him a gentle smile in return. "I appreciate it," I exhaled deeply. "Would it be alright if I remained out here for a while longer?"

"Certainly," Tank replied. "I'll take your luggage up to your room and then stay nearby."

"Thank you," I murmured quietly.

Tank made a low sound in acknowledgment before hauling my bag toward the dormitory entrance and allowing the heavy door to bang closed behind him. Another weary breath escaped my lips. My gaze drifted across the sprawling campus grounds.

The hour had grown late, well past the time most students tucked away in their rooms for the night. The winter air carried a gentle chill through the darkness, stirring the fresh powder and sending delicate spirals of snow dancing around my cheeks. I pressed my face deeper into the warmth of my scarf and ventured further onto the open lawn. Each step produced a satisfying crunch as my boots broke through the crusty layer beneath.
