Chapter 49 - Chapter- 49: Revelations

The rumble of the rebuilt 1960 yellow Cadillac filled the cabin with a deep, mechanical hum as Danny navigated through the late-afternoon traffic.

Beside him, Sam leaned back against the freshly upholstered leather, resting her elbow on the open window frame, letting the cool wind whip through her dark hair.

"So," Tucker called out from the back seat, leaning forward so far his chin nearly touched the space between the front headrests. "Are you actually going to tell us where this 'new lab' is, or are we just riding shotgun on a blind detour to nowhere?"

"You'll see when we get there, Tuck," Danny said smoothly, keeping his eyes glued to the asphalt with a casual, one-handed grip on the steering wheel. "Let's just say the basement back home was getting a little too cramped. Especially after last time."

"Cramped is an absolute fucking understatement," MJ muttered from the second row of seating. She was sitting stiffly between Gwen and Peter, her hands tightly clasped in her lap so hard her knuckles were turning white. "Danny, if we pull up to this place and there are needles, glass tubes, or anything that looks like a Mad Scientist starter kit, I am jumping out of this moving car. I'm dead serious."

"Relax, MJ," Gwen sighed, though her own voice lacked any real conviction. She was staring down at her own fingers, flexing them repeatedly as if trying to feel the strange, invisible current humming directly under her skin. "I'm pretty sure if he wanted to dissect us, he wouldn't have offered us front-row seats in a fully restored vintage Caddy."

"Doesn't mean I have to like it," Peter mumbled, pressing his forehead against the cold side window. His senses were still dialing up and down like a broken radio knob tuned to pure static.

Every single bump in the road felt like a localized explosion through the vehicle's chassis, and the distant sound of the tires gripping the asphalt was practically roaring in his ears. "I still feel like my skin is turned inside out."

"That's just the hyper-awareness kicking in," Tucker chimed in, pulling out his high-end PDA to log a few notes. "Your nervous system is basically firing on all cylinders right now. Mechanically speaking, your internal wiring just got upgraded from cheap dial-up to high-grade fiber-optic."

"Thanks, Tucker. That makes me feel so much better about potentially turning into a human-sized tarantula," Peter deadpanned, glaring at him over his shoulder.

"Hey, no spider-mutant bullshit talk back here," Lizz warned from the back, sitting next to Harry. "Danny promised no egg-laying, no cocooning, and definitely no extra eyes. Right, Danny?"

"Damn right," Danny called back over the hum of the engine, turning the Cadillac into a desolate, faded industrial zone on the outskirts of town. "Nobody's turning into a damn bug on my watch."

************

The car finally coasted to a halt, pulling up right in front of the mouth of a long-abandoned subway station.

The concrete was cracked, covered in decades of grime and faded graffiti.

"This is it?" Harry asked, craning his neck to look out at the decaying structure. "An abandoned subway entrance? Danny, this looks like an EPA violation waiting to happen. Or a great place to get murdered."

"Well, looks can be deceiving," Danny replied with a half-smile. "Or in other words... it's just a damn good illusion."

Danny shifted gears and drove the heavy Cadillac straight into the dark tunnel entrance.

The moment the bumper crossed the invisible threshold, heavy industrial floodlights snapped on overhead one by one with loud, mechanical clacks, illuminating a pristine concrete path going deep underground.

The dilapidated exterior was nothing more than high-tech optical camouflage designed to hide the actual facility built beneath the city.

After navigating down a smooth, subterranean slope, they reached a heavy steel bulkhead set into the bedrock. Danny parked the car, stepped out, and walked up to a glowing console.

He scanned his retina, pressed his hand against the biometric scanner, and entered a quick passcode.

With a deep pneumatic hiss, the heavy reinforced door unsealed and slid smoothly upward into the ceiling.

"Open sesame," Danny murmured.

The gang stepped out of the Cadillac, their footfalls echoing off the floor as they walked through the doorway.

The interior was nothing like the rundown station outside.

The space was staggering—vaulted ceilings supported by massive steel girders stretched out into the darkness.

Down the center ran state-of-the-art diagnostic bays, massive digital readouts, reinforced containment rooms, and heavy-duty hydraulic lifts.

The floor was finished in polished gray epoxy resin, spotless except for vibrant yellow safety lines marking off distinct operational zones. sci-fi tech, high-end server racks, and advanced hardware lined the perimeter.

"Holy shit," Peter breathed, his enhanced eyes taking in every single piece of tech.

"Yeah. Holy shit is right," MJ whispered, her initial anxiety temporarily eclipsed by pure, unadulterated bewilderment.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Crypt," Danny announced, tossing his car keys casually into the air before catching them with a crisp snap. "Or, as I like to call it, the place where we can blow stuff up without destroying my mom's kitchen counters."

Harry squinted at him, raising an eyebrow. "Who the fuck names a high-tech lab 'The Crypt'?"

Before Danny could answer, Tucker had already sprinted toward a massive main console setup that spanned an entire wall.

He was hyperventilating, staring at the sheer processing power in front of him. "Sam... Sam, please. Pinch me. Or smack me. I must be hallucinating."

Sam walked up behind him and immediately slapped the back of his head with a loud thwack, then gave his arm a sharp pinch.

"Ow! Okay, shit, I'm awake!" Tucker yelled, rubbing his arm.

"Fucking hell, Danny. Did you and your family build this whole place out of pocket?" Harry asked, looking around in awe. "It looks like a secret lair for a superhero. Or a supervillain."

"Well, aren't you remarkably meta-omniscient for someone so young?" a sweet, incredibly smooth voice with a sharp British accent spoke up out of nowhere, echoing clearly through the central speakers.

The sudden voice made almost everyone jump out of their skin, instantly dropping into defensive stances—except for Danny, who just kept his easy smirk.

"W-who said that? Who the bloody hell said that?!" Peter squeaked, looking up at the ceiling lights as if expecting a ghost to drop down.

"Is this place actually fucking haunted?!" Tucker asked, clutching his PDA to his chest while gulping nervously. "Is that why you named it the Crypt, Danny?!"

"Hahaha, relax, everyone. That's just ARTEMIS," Danny said, waving a hand dismissively. "Artemis, introduce yourself."

"Hello, everyone. I am ARTEMIS—the Fenton family's primary artificial intelligence assistant, fully operational and at your service," the AI chirped warmly.

.......

Absolute silence reigned across the entire facility for a solid three seconds. The ambient hum of the computer fans sounded remarkably like crickets chirping in the awkward quiet.

.......

More silence followed as everyone's brains tried to process the sentence.

Danny's proud grin began to falter slightly as the massive, awe-inspired reaction he expected failed to materialize immediately.

Until, without warning, pandemonium broke loose.

"WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!"

The entire group erupted into a wall of confused shouting and screaming all at once, the sheer volume bouncing off the high-tech walls.

"HEY! Watch the damn volume!" Peter, Gwen, and MJ barked simultaneously, wincing violently and clapping their hands over their ears as their hyper-sensitive hearing took the full brunt of the noise.

The loud complaint made Harry, Tucker, and Lizz instantly recoil. "Sorry! Jesus!" they muttered.

But,

Within seconds, all eyes snapped violently back to Danny, and an absolute torrent of questions broke free.

"Is that a real AI?!"

"Did you actually code a sentient program?!"

"How powerful is her core processing network?!"

"Is she going to turn into Skynet and try to kill us all in our sleep?!"

"ENOUGH!" ARTEMIS's voice suddenly boomed through the speakers at a startling volume, instantly cutting through the noise and making everyone shut their mouths instantly.

The Spider Trio grimaced again, but didn't say anything this time.

The AI paused, dropping her volume back to a silky, calm tone. "Are you alright, Boss? Their baseline vital signs suggest elevated panic, but their vocal outputs are becoming quite taxing."

Danny blinked at the sudden protective outburst, bursting into a light laugh before sighing warmly. "I'm fine, Artemis. Thanks for managing the crowd."

"Anytime, anywhere, at your servitude boss," the AI chirped back, adding a distinctly sassy lilt to the end of the sentence that elicited a few nervous chuckles from the crowd.

Danny crossed his arms, leaning back against a console. "To answer the chaos: yes, she's a real AI. I built her underlying architecture a while back because, frankly, I got tired of hearing about Tony Stark's JARVIS and wanted to prove I could build something better."

"Now then. Let's give you all a proper tour," Danny grinned.

***********

Danny made sure the whole gang got a proper picture of the whole place.

He was clearly enjoying their expressions which also boosted his ego too.

After taking them through the main command hub and letting Artemis get acquainted with the group (during which the AI casually referred to Sam as "my Boss's future wife," sending the goth girl into a bright red, stammering meltdown that earned Danny a hard smack to the arm when he laughed) Danny led the group down a side corridor.

They passed through an airlock door into a completely different wing of the facility, and once again, their jaws collectively dropped.

This section was illuminated in a sleek, vibrant neon green.

The room was packed with complex diagnostic arrays, containment pods, and specialized scientific gear.

Set directly into the far wall was a massive, hexagonal ring—a dormant gateway of some kind, wired into heavy cable conduits pulsing with stabilized green energy.

On a massive secondary monitor, real-time feeds showed telemetry and combat data featuring a figure clad in glowing emerald armor fighting off threats in mid-air.

"Wait..." Gwen murmured, recognizing the silhouette instantly. "That's Wildfire... from the Phantom Force!"

Others, equally perplexed, nodded too.

Right in the center of the bay, working under the chassis of a massive piece of hardware, were Jack and Maddie Fenton.

The vehicle they were working on was a masterclass in aerodynamic engineering—a sleek, aggressive hybrid that blended the sharp contours of a high-tech jet fighter with the elongated body of a small transport vessel.

It featured a pointed, dark nose cone, swept-back wings ending in upturned winglets, a prominent dual-tail fin, and multiple heavy jet thrusters mounted at the rear.

A large, multi-paneled reinforced glass canopy covered the front cockpit, revealing empty pilot and passenger seats.

Along the side was a row of thick rectangular windows looking into a spacious interior cabin, right next to a heavy side entry hatch.

The entire ship was finished in a stunning metallic gray and dark green color scheme, lined with intricate, glowing neon green pinstripes and under-chassis power grids.

The gang stood frozen, having no fucking clue what kind of secret-agent, sci-fi operation they had just stumbled into.

Hearing footfalls, Jack and Maddie popped out from under the chassis, wiping grease off their hands.

"Hey, kids! How's the tour going?" Jack boomed, his voice echoing loudly off the metal walls as he gave a massive wave.

Maddie offered them a warm smile while walking straight past Danny to pull Sam into a tight, motherly hug, pressing two quick kisses onto her cheeks. "Sam, sweetie! It's so good to see you down here!"

Sam went completely red for the second time in ten minutes, clearing her throat and offering a strained, polite smile. "Hi, Mrs. Fenton."

Danny had already cleared their visit with his parents beforehand, so the elder Fentons weren't surprised in the slightest. They knew what today was—it was time to stop hiding the truth from the people Danny trusted most.

Before anyone could ask another question, one of the pressurized medical pods near the central computer hissed, venting a cloud of white vapor.

The glass door slid upward, and Jazz stepped out, unwrapping diagnostic sensors from her wrists and tossing a ponytail over her shoulder.

Harry blinked, rubbing his eyes. "Jazz?! What the hell are you doing in a sci-fi pod?!"

"Getting my baseline scan updated," Jazz said casually, giving them a small wave. "Welcome to the real inner circle, guys."

Danny took a step forward into the center of the green-lit lab, drawing every eye in the room to him. "Alright. I know your brains are melting right now, so I'm just going to skip the long-winded speech and come straight to the point."

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes.

Suddenly, two bright rings of pure white light materialized around his waist. One ring traveled smoothly upward toward his head, while the other dropped down toward his feet.

As the light swept over him, his dark hair washed over into a brilliant, snow-white sheen. His blue eyes snapped open, now glowing with an intense, luminous emerald color.

His skin paled to a clear, ethereal fair tone.

The colors of his casual street clothes vanished under the shifting energy, replaced instantly by the gray and white.

The rings flared once more before vanishing completely, leaving the room illuminated by the soft, supernatural green glow emanating directly from his body.

Danny hovered an inch off the resin floor, floating effortlessly in place, a classic, half-cocked smirk playing on his lips.

"Meet the other me," he said smoothly.

The silence that followed was deafening.

Peter's jaw was practically on the floor. MJ was staring at him like he had just turned into an alien right in front of her. Gwen's eyes were wide, her mind rapidly trying to piece together every single data.

Sam, Tucker, Harry, Lizz, all looked at Danny—at Phantom—and then slowly turned their heads as one toward Jack, Maddie, and Jazz, who were just standing there, smiling calmly.

The dots connected.

The math finally added up.

The whole fucking equation fell into place.

The Fentons.

The freaking Fentons were the Phantom Force.
