The silence that reigned inside the laboratory couldn't be any more suffocating than dropping bio-weapons on a city.
All seven of them stood frozen, caught in a state of complete and utter shock.
Sure, discovering a high-tech laboratory hidden under the facade of an abandoned subway station was a jarring experience on its own.
It felt like stepping out of Queens and walking straight into a top-secret government installation or a sci-fi flick.
But this?
How do you even begin to process the fact that your best friend—and his entire family—are actual, honest-to-god superheroes?
They were still trying to wrap their heads around the sheer absurdity of the revelation.
Danny let out a slow exhale.
With a flash of white light that ringed around his waist and split upward and downward, his snow-white hair, and neon-green eyes vanished.
He transformed back into his everyday human self, standing in plain denim and a jacket.
"So..." Danny broke the heavy silence, rubbing the back of his neck. "Anything you guys wanna ask?"
Silence.
Dead silence.
Unyielding silence.
The atmosphere remained utterly frozen, making Danny's face twitch in mild annoyance before he slapped a hand over his face.
He facepalmed so hard the echo bounced off the pristine metallic walls.
He had truly, monumentally underestimated the profound shock they were about to go through.

For the next fifteen minutes, the Fenton family took turns explaining how their lives had violently derailed into a comic book plot.
The more they explained, the more absurd it got.
"Okay, so let me get this straight," Sam said, breaking the long spell of speechlessness.
She pointed a finger at the massive, reinforced steel doors of the closed ghost portal. "You guys built a portal that leads to another dimension?"
"Yes',
Jack and Maddie, who were standing side by side in matching sleek lab suits rather than their usual bulky orange jump-suits, replied in unison.
"Holy shit," Tucker whispered, his jaw practically dragging across the reinforced flooring.
"You guys actually built a dimensional gateway in your basement. And then moved it into a subterranean lair."
"And then," Sam continued, pacing back and forth as she tried to tally the absurdity, "from the future, this guy named 'Kang' comes charging in, attacks your house, and tries to murder you all because he believed your family would be responsible for the universe's destruction?"
Danny rolled his eyes, while Jazz gave a calm, reassuring nod.
"Precisely," Jazz confirmed.
"Though 'destruction' is a bit of an overstatement on his part, considering he was acting on unverified temporal data", Danny added.
"Right, temporal data or whatever," Sam muttered sarcastically.
"And then, a possible future version of you—" she pointed directly at Danny's chest "—came back in time, saved your lives, and in the chaos, the original portal got blown to pieces, your house lab was destroyed, and your whole family got exposed to concentrated ectoplasmic radiation that mutated your DNA?"
The entire Fenton family nodded in unison once more.
Sam brought both palms up, covered her face, and let out a long, heavy sigh that seemed to drain every bit of oxygen from her lungs.
Just what kind of insane shitshow had they all walked into?
And it wasn't just her feeling the weight of the universe crushing their reality.
Harry, Liz, Peter, Gwen, MJ, and Tucker were all standing in a semi-circle, staring blankly ahead.
Their brains were attempting to process the influx of crazy like an outdated desktop trying to run high-end software—glitching, stalling, and on the verge of blue-screening.
Time travel. Interdimensional portals. Genetic mutations. Superhero family dynamics.
It was screaming superhero fantasy, except the Fentons weren't a comic book issue; they were standing right in front of them, breathing and sweating.
Sam lowered her hands and looked at Danny.
She really looked at him this time.
Although the idiot had a faint, self-deprecating smirk tucked into the corner of his mouth, she could see right through the bravade.
Behind that casual charm was a guy who looked profoundly tired.
Beneath the cool superhero posture was a scared teenager carrying the weight of unknown threats and family safety on his shoulders.
He didn't need another witty remark.
The poor guy looked like he needed a hug just to remember he was still human.
Dropping her guarded posture, Sam took two quick steps forward and wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, pulling him into a firm hug.
Danny was caught completely off guard, his arms hovering in the air for a fraction of a second before he softened, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her close.
He buried his face into the side of her neck, breathing in the familiar scent of her hair. The ambient hum of the laboratory dissolved into the background.
Neither of them cared about the spectators standing just a few feet away.
The other six teens shifted uncomfortably.
A collective blush rippled through the group as Peter coughed softly into his elbow, Gwen suddenly found her shoes fascinating, and Harry decided to carefully inspect the ceiling rivets.
Man, the interior design of this underground lab is really top-notch, they all collectively thought, desperate for any mental distraction to avoid staring at the moment unfolding in front of them.
A few steps back, Maddie dabbed a small tear from the corner of her eye with a gloved thumb, a warm, maternal smile gracing her features.
She felt a profound wave of happiness seeing her son find someone so grounded and caring.
Beside her, Jack threw a broad arm over her shoulders while Jazz gently caressed her mother's back, all three sharing a quiet moment of familial happiness.

Once the emotional weight settled and another 10 minutes of detailed explanations smoothed out the rough edges of their story, it was time to transition from shock back to practical reality.
"Alright, people, move it along," Danny announced, stepping back from Sam with a faint flush on his cheeks but his usual leadership energy restored. "First order of business: medical baseline."
One by one, under Maddie's gentle supervision, small blood samples were taken from Peter, Gwen and MJ.
Even blood samples from Sam, Tucker, Harry and Liz were taken too.
Caught off guard, when they asked for the reason and purpose, Danny replied, 'Just in case'.
The four really wanted to beat the shit out of him.
Moving on.
The samples were immediately slotted into the primary diagnostic array, feeding directly into the laboratory's main computer system to monitor for cellular abnormalities, radioactive degradation, or unexpected side effects.
"Next up," Danny said, turning toward Peter, Gwen, and MJ.
"We need to figure out what you three are actually capable of now. To test your true limits, we have to go full throttle. Which means..." He pointed toward a massive, sleek, pressurized double-door structure in the facility. "...the VR Pod."
Once again, the group's collective jaw dropped.
"Are you kidding me?" Tucker gasped, practically pressing his nose against the reinforced glass of the pod. "A fully functional, military-grade Virtual Reality simulation suite? In a subway basement? That's literally anime tech! That's every gamer's absolute wet dream!"
"It's custom-built," Danny corrected with a slight smidge of pride. "Designed to simulate variable gravity, dense structural stress, and tactical combat without blowing a hole through the ceiling of the underground subway line."
As the spider trio approached the chamber, Peter stopped and gestured wildly toward the opposite where an aerodynamically designed craft sat suspended on a hydraulic launch platform. "And what is that? Please tell me that's a jet."
"That," Jack chimed in, puffing his chest out proudly, "is the Fenton Specter Speeder! The FSS! Built for deep-space and cross-dimensional traversal. Once we get the stabilization parameters on the new portal dialed in, that bad boy is taking us right into the heart of the Ghost Zone!"
"Ghosts," Liz repeated, her voice pitching up an octave. "Right. Ghosts. Because actual time travelling warlords weren't enough, we're adding literal spirits to the mix."
"They're ectoplasmic entities, technically," Danny corrected with a shrug.
While the trio prepped for the diagnostic simulation, Harry sauntered over to Danny, crossing his arms. His brow was furrowed, his eyes narrowing as a sudden realization hit him like a freight train.
"Wait a second," Harry said slowly, stepping directly into Danny's space. "You... you're the one who punched my dad in the face."
Silence reigned once again.
The gang did hear about Phantom punching Norman Osborn in the face during the Meat Chaos.
As realization dawned that it was actually Danny that punched Norman, one of the most influential men in the world, their mouth agape.
Danny, on the other hand, didn't even flinch.
He leaned back against the main console, locked eyes with Harry, and gave a completely unabashed, shameless response.
"He deserved it."
Harry's entire body twitched.
For a split second, he felt a sudden surge of protective anger—an instinctual urge to grab Danny by the collar and drag him.
But as quickly as the flare of anger arrived, it withered away under the sheer weight of reality.
Harry knew his father.
He knew how cold, manipulative, and downright abusive his father had become after the death of his mother.
Deep down, Harry knew Norman had probably deserved far worse than a single left hook.
Harry let out a long, weary sigh, his shoulders slumping. "Man... still. That's my dad."
Danny's expression softened. The cocky posture vanished, replaced by genuine regret. He reached out and placed a solid hand on Harry's shoulder. "Yeah. You're right. I'm sorry, Harry. I dropped the ball on that. I shouldn't have taken it out on him like that, no matter what he was acting. I am sorry."
Harry looked at Danny's earnest face, nodded slowly, and bumped his fist against Danny's chest. "Just... give me a heads up next time you decide to deck a billionaire."
Danny nodded with a smile to which Harry smiled back.
Meanwhile, Tucker was practically vibrating next to the primary terminal, attempting to plug his PDA into the Fenton mainboard. "Yo Danny, what OS is this running on? Is this quantum computing? Can I see the source code for the scanners? What's the clock speed on the main processor?"
"Tucker, back off the terminal before I use your shoelaces to strangle you," Sam warned, grabbing him by the back of his collar and yanking him three feet away from the console.
"W-wait. Sam. I just want to interface!" Tucker whined, though he wisely stepped back.

With order restored, Peter, Gwen, and MJ stepped into the VR Pod.
The doors sealed shut with a deep hiss.
Above them, large holographic displays materialized in mid-air, rendering high-definition readouts of their vital signs, muscle density, neural speed, and physical output.
"Initiating baseline physical stress test," Jazz announced, tapping the interface.
Inside the simulation, heavy structural weights, automated defense drones, and dynamic obstacle courses materialized around the trio.
The results that began streaming onto the holographic monitors were nothing short of amazing.
Spectacular, even.
"Look at those force readouts," Maddie said, pointing to the structural stress monitors as Peter easily caught a simulated 10-ton steel girder thrown at him by an automated crane, tossing it aside like a wooden beam.
"Peter's maximum static lift ceiling is currently resting at ten metric tons," Danny read off the holographic screen, zooming in on the biometric telemetry. "Agility, reaction time, cellular endurance, and metabolic recovery have completely blown past human limitations. He's operating on a completely different biological playing field."
He swiped the screen to bring up Gwen and MJ's diagnostics. "Gwen, MJ—you two are sitting in the exact same power tier. Your muscle density is ultra-compact, giving you high-impact resistance and crazy kinetic output."
During those tests, they also discovered that they have organic webs.
Which certainly grossed them out a bit.
As the spider trio stepped out of the pod, wiping sweat from their foreheads, Danny expanded the holographic interface, bringing up a complex secondary strand of DNA sequencing provided by the lab's supercomputer.
"Congratulations," Danny announced, looking at the three of them. "You are officially walking, talking, breathing spiders in human bodies. But ARTEMIS just finished running the deep-tissue expansion models, and the numbers are even crazier than we thought."
"Define 'crazier'," MJ requested, pulling her hair back into a ponytail while catching her breath.
"Right now, you're operating at baseline human comfort levels," Danny explained, tapping the screen to bring up a red stress graph. "When induced by high adrenaline, extreme tactical stress, or absolute survival instincts, your physical output—strength, speed, sensory perception—can spike up to ten times your current performance."
The room went dead silent again.
Peter looked down at his own hands, flexing his fingers in disbelief.
Gwen swallowed hard, exchanging a nervous glance with MJ. The sheer scale of that kind of power was exhilarating, but it carried an undeniable edge of terror.
One wrong move, one uncalibrated push, and they could easily tear through a concrete wall—or even kill someone they cared about.
"That's... a lot of responsibility," Peter murmured softly.
"What about you?" Harry asked, turning his gaze from the spider trio's metrics back to Danny.
He crossed his arms again, leaning back. "What about your potential, Danny? What kind of stats are we looking at for the local ghost boy?"
Danny let out a soft chuckle. "Glad you asked."
With a quick swipe of his hand, Danny brought up his own personal profile, displaying a glowing blue schematic of his half-ghost hybrid physiology.
"Base human form is standard," Danny began, sliding his finger to bring up the hero stats. "In turned form? Static lift capacity sits comfortable at fifteen metric tons. Top flight speed in the atmosphere hits roughly 115 miles per hour without pushing thermal limits. And my physical reflexes?" Danny flicked his wrist, disappearing from his spot and reappearing behind Tucker in a blur of motion so fast the air cracked with a low pop. "Faster than the human eye can register. FTE for short."
Tucker jumped half a foot into the air. "Dude! Don't do that!"
The group stared at Danny like he was some kind of walking anomaly—part guardian angel, part high-level demon.
The sheer gap in power was staggering, yet sitting right there beneath his laid-back demeanor was the same guy who used to fail pop quizzes in history class.
Ping.
A gentle chime resonated through the lab as the final blood diagnostic results completed their multi-tier analysis.
The central console flashed green, displaying 3 clean health reports.
Danny walked over, scanning the scrolling text lines. "Alright, blood work is fully processed. I've got good news and bad news."
"Give us the good news first," Gwen said, wrapping a jacket around her shoulders.
"Good news: your cellular structures are completely stable," Danny announced, turning around to face them. "No genetic degradation, no horrifying body-horror mutations, no cancerous cellular decay, and zero toxic radiation side-effects. You guys are 100% healthy. Maybe even the healthiest "
A collective sigh of relief washed over the room.
"And the bad news?" Peter asked cautiously.
Danny leaned against the console table, his expression turning serious. "The bad news is... this isn't your final form. You're all teenagers. Your bodies are still developing, which means your powers are going to scale up alongside your natural growth. Your strength, your reflexes, your sensory acuity—it's all going to keep increasing over the next few years."
He zoomed in on a peculiar node in the genetic mapping for Peter, Gwen, and MJ.
"And the bigger issue," Danny continued, "is mutation variance. Because your DNA has incorporated exotic mutagenic strands, there's a high probability that as you mature, you'll develop secondary abilities. Bio-electricity, dynamic camouflage, kinetic redirection—it's all on the table."
Peter, Gwen, and MJ shared a look of pure anticipation mixed with a healthy dose of dread.
"Which brings me to my final point," Danny said, looking directly at the spider trio. "You three need to drop by this lab regularly. We need to run control drills and keep track of your scaling stats. If your strength jumps by two tons overnight, you need to know about it before you accidentally rip someone's head off at school."
He paused, letting his gaze fall on each of them.
"Training here is mandatory for your own safety," Danny added, his voice dropping into a gentle, supportive tone. "But what you actually do with these powers out in the world? Whether you want to put on a mask, save people, or just live a totally normal, quiet life... that is 100% your choice. Nobody is going to push you into anything."
Peter looked at his hands once more, then looked up at Danny, a quiet resolve forming in his eyes. Gwen offered a soft, confident nod, while MJ simply gave a cool, decisive smirk.
"Fair enough," Peter said softly. "We'll be here."
********
With the heavy debriefing finally wrapped up, the group shared a few lighthearted goodbyes with Jack, Maddie, and Jazz.
The Fenton parents offered open invitations for dinner, which Jack insisted would feature his "famous ecto-purified meatloaf"—an offer the teenagers politely and swiftly declined.
Danny also made them swore to never reveal what they witnessed here.
Or else there will be consequences.
After that chilling threat labeled as a warning, Danny led the group down the primary access corridor, stepping through the concealed hydraulic security door, up the hidden access way, and back out into the cool, dusty air of the abandoned subway station exit.
