She pressed herself back against the headboard.
"Something is wrong." Her voice broke on the last word. "Kade, something is wrong. I cannot..."
The room titled.
Her vision split at the edges. The wolf pushed against the inside of her body with a force that had nothing to do with her own nature and everything to do with whatever had been painted onto that paper. Designed specifically to remove the part of her that made choices and leave only the part that reacted.
She heard Kade's voice. Sharp and immediate. Heard him calling for Marcus. Calling for the doctor. She tried to hold onto the sound of it. But the heat in her chest had become something she could not contain.
The wolf did not ask her this time.
