The attack continued for several minutes, each burst of gunfire making the situation more chaotic. The Winters guards were trained, armed, and determined to protect their passengers, but they had been forced to react to an assault that began before they could establish a defensive formation.
Then the sound of gunfire began to thin.
One shot rang out from farther down the road, followed by a brief exchange near the rear of the convoy. After that, the attackers advanced more confidently, moving between the stopped vehicles while calling to one another in short, controlled commands.
The remaining guards were forced to lower their weapons under threat. Some had been injured during the exchange, while others were disarmed and ordered away from the vehicles. Their resistance had delayed the attackers, but it had not stopped them.
A man approached the lead car and struck the window with the side of his weapon.
"Out. All of you."
Nobody moved immediately.
