Ryker did not answer. He gave the guards a brief signal, and the Winters family was divided among the holding rooms. Luna protested when Thomas was taken in a different direction, reaching for him until a guard blocked her path.
"Thomas!"
"I'm here," he called back, trying to keep his voice steady. "Mother, stay calm. We'll find out what's happening."
The doors shut before either of them could say anything more.
For a moment, the corridor fell silent apart from the distant sounds of the guards moving about. Ryker waited until the prisoners had been secured and the commander had confirmed that the holding area was under control. Only then did he take out his phone.
He had a report to make.
