Backstory Summary
Uche lost his family to a gate burst incident at just fifteen years old and was rejected by extended family members because of the harsh economic situation of the country. They could barely survive, talk more of taking on one more burden.
Homeless at fifteen, Uche was forced to do hard labor to survive, sleeping in empty churches or hospitals at night. He worked at construction sites, in retail, doing menial tasks—anywhere he could find work, he was there. During this time, he experienced the cruelty of men, the weight of corruption, and the consequences of having no backing.
However, his negative experiences did not make him resentful. He didn't transform into a cold, villainous fiend waiting for an opportunity to burn the entire country. He simply became numb and detached. He is pessimistic by nature, untrusting, and rightfully selfish.
The solitude that once haunted him became his fortress of solitude.
By sixteen, he found a stable job as one of the many security officials in a church. The pay wasn't anything impressive, but it offered accommodation, which he desperately needed, so he jumped at the chance. Till now (Chapter 1), he has been waiting for the opportunity to reach eighteen, holding onto the hope of becoming an ascendant.
That is his only hope of escaping the hellish life he has been forced to live for many years.
Why am I bringing this up?
Because my MC is strange. He's not heroic, and he's not villainous either.
He lacks passion and ambition, doesn't take unnecessary risks, never goes out of his way to help or harm people, and only acts if he will be affected or is forced to act.
There is a whole lot about him I would love to share, but I think it's best you see him in action for yourselves.
