Chapter 14 - 13.

Rayan stretched his arms.

"Okay, card sharks. Next game."

He pulled out folded paper slips.

"Mafia."

Adam instantly perked up. "Ah yes. My natural habitat."

Everyone gathered closer.

Rayan stood in the middle like a host.

"Rules are simple. We're playing one match only. Time limit—20 minutes."

He looked around.

"In these 20 minutes, civilians have to find the Mafia and vote them out. Mafia secretly kills one person every round."

He pointed to Isha.

"Isha is judge. She controls night and day."

Isha nodded seriously.

Rayan continued.

"No powers. No doctor. No detective. Just brains."

Adam gasped dramatically. "So basically… we're doomed."

Everyone laughed.

Rayan passed the folded slips.

"Don't open until I say."

They all held their paper.

"Three… two… one."

Open.

Nyx read hers quietly.

Mafia.

Her expression didn't change.

Not even a flicker.

Lucien glanced sideways, trying to read faces.

Adam peeked at his and whispered, "Civilian. Great. I die first."

Isha clapped once.

"Everyone close your eyes."

The room went dark.

"MAFIA, open your eyes."

Nyx slowly opened hers.

Only hers.

She didn't move.

Didn't smile.

Didn't react.

Just memorized everyone's breathing.

"Choose your victim."

Nyx lifted one finger.

Pointed at Evan.

"MAFIA, close your eyes."

"Everyone wake up."

Isha looked down.

"Evan… you're dead."

Evan groaned and dramatically fell backward onto the couch.

"Of course. First casualty. I knew it."

Adam saluted him. "Gone but not forgotten, brother."

Day discussion begins.

Amara immediately spoke.

"Okay. Who looked suspicious?"

Adam raised his hand.

"I vote Lucien."

Lucien blinked. "Why?"

Adam shrugged. "Because you breathe like a villain."

Everyone laughed.

Lucien rolled his eyes.

Nyx stayed silent.

Rayan looked at her.

"Nyx? Thoughts?"

She lifted her gaze slowly.

Her voice was calm.

"If I were Mafia, I wouldn't kill Evan first. He talks too much. He's useful as distraction."

Adam pointed.

"SEE? That sounds like Mafia logic!"

Nyx looked directly at him.

"And yet Evan is dead."

Adam froze.

"…fair."

Lucien leaned forward.

"Nyx is right. Mafia would target quiet players first."

Nyx tilted her head slightly.

"So you think I'm quiet."

Lucien hesitated.

Adam jumped in.

"She's not quiet, she's emotionally unavailable."

Nyx deadpanned.

"Thank you for your psychological diagnosis."

Vote.

They randomly vote Alex.

Alex is revealed civilian.

He groans.

"I trusted you people."

Night two.

Nyx kills Rayan.

He dramatically clutches his chest.

"Host eliminated. Tragic."

Adam pretends to cry.

"First Evan, now Rayan. This game is personal."

Day two.

Lucien grows serious.

"Pattern matters. Evan then Rayan. Both loud. Mafia is removing chaos."

Everyone slowly turns toward Nyx.

She notices.

She doesn't flinch.

She calmly crosses her arms.

"You're assuming Mafia wants silence."

She looks at Lucien.

"But what if Mafia wants confusion?"

Lucien studies her.

Adam squints.

"Why does that actually make sense?"

Nyx continues softly:

"If Mafia were strategic, they'd leave loud players alive to mislead."

Amara nods.

"That's true…"

Nyx adds the killer line, steady and cold:

"Emotion clouds judgement. Logic doesn't."

The room goes quiet.

Lucien exhales.

"She's not Mafia."

Adam points at Nyx.

"I agree. If she were Mafia, we'd already be dead in real life."

Nyx raises an eyebrow.

"Comforting."

They vote James.

Civilian.

James sighs.

"Wow. Friendship ended."

Night three.

Nyx kills Ella.

Day three.

Now everyone is tense.

Only six players left.

Lucien finally speaks sharply.

"Statistically, Mafia is either Amara or Nyx."

Adam jumps up.

"EXCUSE ME? Why Nyx?!"

Lucien meets Nyx's eyes.

"You haven't defended yourself once."

Nyx replies instantly.

"I don't need to."

Adam gasps.

"She's so cool I'm starting to suspect myself."

Amara looks nervous.

"I swear it's not me."

Nyx turns toward Amara gently.

"You don't lie well."

Amara freezes.

Lucien notices.

Adam whispers loudly.

"Ooooo plot twist."

They vote Amara.

Civilian.

Amara throws a cushion.

"This group hates me."

Only five left.

Time almost up.

Adam, Lucien, Nyx, Isha, Elias.

Isha looks at the clock.

"Last round."

Night.

Nyx kills Elias.

Final discussion.

Lucien stares hard at Nyx now.

"It's you."

Nyx looks back.

"You're emotional."

Adam spins in circles.

"Guys I don't know who to trust anymore I feel like I'm in a Netflix thriller."

Lucien points at Nyx.

"She controls conversations. Redirects blame. Never panics."

Nyx replies quietly:

"Or maybe you're projecting because you couldn't read me."

Lucien falters.

Adam slaps his own forehead.

"WHY IS EVERYONE HOT AND SMART THIS IS UNFAIR."

They vote.

Tie.

Isha raises her hand.

"Time's up."

Everyone looks at her.

She smiles slowly.

"MAFIA… reveal yourself."

Nyx calmly opens her slip and places it on the table.

Mafia.

Dead silence.

Adam falls backward dramatically.

"NOOOOOOO."

Lucien exhales sharply.

"…You played us."

Nyx stands.

"You assumed unreadable meant innocent."

She looks at Adam.

"You trusted charm."

She looks at Lucien.

"You trusted logic."

Then she delivers the iconic line:

"And neither of you noticed the quietest person was deciding everything."

Adam crawls toward her on the floor.

"You gaslit me with a straight face. I feel violated."

Lucien shakes his head.

"Cold. Precise. Terrifying."

Adam points at Nyx.

"Reminder: never argue with this woman in real life."

Nyx picks up her drink.

"I warned you."

Adam groans.

"I officially declare Nyx the final boss."

Everyone laughs.

Adam throws an arm around Lucien.

"We came here to make memories."

Then points at Nyx.

"And instead we unlocked trauma."
