"The cat got your tongue now?" Jax chuckled, pulling me out of my thoughts. He was clearly enjoying this far too much.
I could not even blame him.
If I were in his place, I would probably feel the same way.
"Thane and I dated in the past, but it was brief and mostly online," I lied, because I had no choice. I needed to protect myself first. "We only met three times, and it was outside Zazubat."
Shock crossed their faces. Ash's lips parted, but no words came out. He slowly turned to Jax, as if waiting for him to explain what he had just heard.
My heart thudded hard in my chest as I wondered if they believed me. If they did not, I was in serious trouble because I had just admitted to knowing Thane.
If he pushed back with solid proof, it could all be used against me.
"I I didn't know Thane was gay," Jax said, still stunned, shrugging his shoulders.
It was the first time I had ever seen him unable to mock or argue with what I said.
