Chapter 7 - Chapter:-7 Rage Behind the Crown

The meeting had just ended when the air turned strange.

Heavy.

Cold.

Restless.

My team continued talking strategies, unaware that something invisible stood beside me—silent… watching… barely contained.

He hadn't spoken since the night at the bar.

But I could feel him.

Closer than ever.

And far more dangerous.

We stepped out into the underground city's main street.

Neon lights flickered across dark buildings. Guards surrounded me, alert but calm.

Too calm.

Because seconds later—

Gunshots shattered the silence.

Chaos exploded.

Enemies rushed from every direction, their faces hidden, their movements precise.

This wasn't random.

It was an assassination attempt.

On me.

I moved instantly.

Orders flew from my mouth like weapons.

"Shield the back line!"

"Take the rooftops!"

My people obeyed without hesitation. The battlefield shifted in our favor within seconds.

But something else was changing too.

The air grew colder.

The shadows stretched longer… darker… alive.

A bullet flew straight toward me.

Too fast.

Too close.

And suddenly—

It stopped midair.

Hung there… trembling.

Before falling harmlessly to the ground.

Gasps echoed around me.

My allies stared.

Confusion filled their eyes.

And for the first time—

Suspicion.

The shadows twisted violently.

Enemies stumbled as if grabbed by invisible hands.

Weapons slipped from fingers that shook uncontrollably.

A dark force surged around me like a storm breaking loose.

He was here.

And he had lost control.

One enemy grabbed my shoulder from behind, pulling me too close.

Before I could react—

An unseen force slammed him across the street.

The impact echoed like thunder.

Fear spread instantly through both sides of the fight.

My people looked at me differently now.

Not just as a leader.

As something… unnatural.

"Stop," I whispered sharply.

The shadows hesitated—but only for a second.

I felt his anger clearly.

Jealous.

Possessive.

Terrified of losing me.

"Enough," I said louder, my voice carrying authority beyond the battlefield.

Slowly… painfully… the chaos began to settle.

The darkness retreated, curling back toward me like something alive that only listened to one voice—mine.

The fight ended soon after.

Victory belonged to us.

But peace did not.

One of my closest commanders stepped forward, eyes narrowed.

"How did that happen?" he asked quietly.

"That power… wasn't normal."

For a moment, the sweet girl mask almost slipped.

Too many eyes watched me.

Too many questions waited.

I gave a calm smile.

"Fear makes enemies weak," I replied smoothly.

Half truth.

Half lie.

But not everyone looked convinced.

Later that night, alone on a rooftop, the wind cold against my skin…

He appeared again.

Clearer than ever before.

Not fully human… but almost real.

His outline flickered with anger and regret.

"You nearly exposed me," I said quietly.

"I nearly lost you," he answered.

Silence stretched between us.

Then, softer… darker…

"I know what it's like to rule through fear," he said.

"To watch enemies die because of your name."

A pause.

A hint of a past he still refused to fully reveal.

"You were a leader," I whispered.

He didn't deny it.

But he didn't confirm it either.

He stepped closer.

Closer than he had ever been.

The air between us felt charged… dangerous… alive.

"You let them touch you," he murmured again, jealousy flickering beneath his calm voice.

"And you almost destroyed a city because of it," I replied softly.

A faint smile touched his lips.

"Maybe," he admitted.

His hand lifted slowly… brushing my jaw… firmer now… more real.

My breath caught.

"You scare me when you lose control," I whispered.

"You scare me when you don't push me away," he answered.

And for a moment… the Vel... and the Rive....stood too close… too connected… too dangerous for either world to survive unchanged.
