The sun had barely risen, casting a pale light over the battered convenience store, but there was no time to rest. Thousands of Oni had gathered outside, their crimson eyes glowing like molten coals. The first wave had been repelled, but now the real siege was beginning.
Vario stood behind the counter, hands glowing with residual majiv energy. He swallowed hard. "Th-thousands…? Are you kidding me?!"
Bella adjusted her knife belt and muttered, "Nope. Not kidding. And they look angry this time."
Nyx smirked, tossing a bag of chips over her shoulder to knock back a scouting Oni. "Well, at least it's consistent. Chaos never takes a break."
Garruk planted his feet firmly, soda can tower raised high. "Everyone knows the first wave was just a warm-up. Let's make sure this store survives!"
From the shadows, reinforcements arrived: Yuwen, Morvane, Selene, and Kael. Each took their position immediately. Ilyra stomped the floor, freezing patches in strategic locations, slowing the Oni advance. Kael scribbled numbers in his notebook, calculating trajectories for improvised weapons. Morvane waved her cleaning cloths and bottles like ceremonial swords, striking Oni in unpredictable ways. Selene disappeared into the shadows, appearing behind Oni to trip and confuse them.
The Oni charged as one, a terrifying tide of horns, claws, and snarls. The front line slammed into Vario's reinforced majiv barrier. Sparks flew as the magical shield groaned under the weight. Several Oni clawed through, forcing Vario to rapidly extend the barrier in all directions.
Bella darted through the aisles, slashing limbs and tossing random products—frozen turkey dick, soda cans, cup noodles—like grenades. One Oni tripped on spilled noodles, crashing into a shelf that sent chips flying everywhere.
Nyx stood on a shelf, grinning as she flicked a bag of chips at a group of Oni, knocking them into the display of candy. "Who said retail work isn't tactical?"
Seraphine hovered above, chanting prayers and weaving glowing sigils into protective zones. "Focus on calm. Protect each other," she urged, her voice a steadying force amid the chaos.
Vario's hands shook, sweat dripping down his face. "I… I don't know if I can hold this much longer!"
"You can," Seraphine said firmly. "We are stronger together. You are not alone."
Garruk swung a soda tower like a battering ram, knocking back a dozen Oni at once. "Store's safe as long as I'm standing!"
Outside, the Oni began retreating slightly, reassessing. The front line had been slowed, but the main army was still gathering strength. Crimson eyes glinted, signaling a massive second wave.
Vario slumped against the counter, trying to catch his breath. "We survived the first wave… but there's more. So much more…"
Bella wiped sweat from her brow. "Then we do what we always do. Fight. Survive. And make sure our store doesn't get destroyed by demons again."
Nyx grinned from the top of a shelf. "Let's see how creative we can get this time."
Seraphine's aura flared brighter as she chanted. "We endure. Together. No Oni will break us."
The store, battered but unbroken, prepared for the next surge. Outside, the streets throbbed red. The Oni Siege had only just begun.
