Chapter 4 - The Start (4)

Judging from the look on his face, their relationship might've been difficult.

Despite being wealthy, I knew one thing: Was "if one had enjoyed too much, they would lose at the end". Then in that case, she must've had enjoyed it too much.

Perhaps she got it from one of her parents. Though, her mother is definitely on the spot for that as the father seemed different.

"..."

My breath hitched at the thought of it, almost making my body jerk from the feeling.

That's one thing I have studied about my body.

"Well, Mayo—sir, what is something your daughter likes to do most of the time?"

"Oh?" He responded, thinking for a bit. "Something that my daughter likes?"

For a long second, that was probably my longest patience until he got those words right and clear. "She likes to play with her dolls that had been bought by her mom."

"By her mom...?" I thought, I swallowed hard.

Damn.

Even his own daughter won't take a second chance to go for him... What did he even do?

I hesitated, "Then, how's your relationship with your wife?" That kicked in. An intensity went thicker between us both.

He stayed still, before finally answering. "Something came up."

Spot on. "According to my assumptions, he's definitely had something up with her." I figured. Keeping a composed expression as I nod.

"Ah, understood."

I looked around to see everyone was still talking. They seemed rich in a way that's obvious, my eyes bore down to their appearance.

"Not much of a rich people, aren't you guys?" I thought.

My thoughts were immediately interrupted as he then cleared his throat before tossing over to the prepared table, announcing.

"Now everyone, it seems like it is time for the party to start!"

I felt like standing up and clap my hands for him for some reason.

"Stood up and applauded" With a neutral expression.

Makes me giggle from my imaginations.

"I'm excited for her!"

Said by some random auntie from the crowd, she was dressed in fancy outfit with golden jewelry.

Must've been fun to be rich, huh?

The others were whispering from center to every corner.

"She's quite the lucky girl!"

"Imagine having your dad to host a whole party for your birthday, and even invited most of the town!"

"I know right!"

Some comments sounded as if jealousy, because of a party?

I would've spend my money to my daughter only.

Not the whole town for just a party.

"O' where have she gone to?"

He called, his gaze drifting around the room for his daughter.

Then footsteps was heard from the staircase, sounding as if many kids were coming down.

"Father!"

She called out, running up to him. Dressed in beautifully light blue victorian dress.

Her arms wrapped around him in joy.

"Father, is it starting yet?" She asked, excited.

He laughed. "Yes, sweetheart."

Despite the way he had described her earlier, he still smiled infront of her.

Yikes..., that's basic.

What am I talking about? That's definitely basic.

Definitely and totally basic.

Then I felt something tugged me from the edge of my coat, I glanced down to see it was Emi.

She stayed silent, her gaze turned to the girl.

For a few seconds, she seemed to have mumbled something that I can't clearly understand.

I raised my eyebrow in confusion.

"..."

"Emi?" I called, then another. "Uhm... Emi?"

No reply.

Was she dozing out in the middle of a party? Can't be. Her gaze on that girl as if seemingly different.

The girl was really happy as she heard the crowd sang for her before she blows the candle.

"Happy birthday!"

She smiled, almost eager for her presents.

"Thank you everyone for showing up!"

"I really appreciate it."

One of her aunties came up to her and hands her the present.

The sight of a present really had lit her up. She grinned in happiness as she unwrapped it.

"Woah!"

She took it out to see it was a big white teddy bear.

She was in awe with the soft fur and hugged it tight.

"It is so adorable!" She said, thanking her auntie. "Thank you, aunt!"

Not going to lie, I expected a whole money. It would've been better, too.

Along the party, everyone cheered for her. Some had given her envelopes, and of course. Desserts is what children love to eat.

All the sweets, all the fun with loquacious mouth running toward one ear to another.

Wind swinging in and out. I'm never going to take this as a remembrance. Then again, that's how parties are.

I silently walked out to take a quick fresh air from outside.

For a while, it was calming. To smell the real oxygen given from the sky. Makes me alive.

I was suddenly startled by a young girl's voice from behind—It was Emi. "Sir Endrick?" She called.

Gee...

"What is it, Emi?" I said, crouching to her height. "..." She stayed silent, then finally muttered. "Nothing."

Eh?

Then, did she walk over here to just stare at me? How random.

"She looked beautiful." She mumbled. I was confused.

Does she mean by that old man's daughter?

Have I ever talked to my father like that?

"Is she?" She nodded.

I stood up to glance up—the old man stepped forward towards us. "Do you have a moment?" I nodded. "Yes, what is it?"

"I really want to thank you for coming to the party tonight." He said. Still expected but anyways—"Oh, of course. It is a pleasure to be here."

"I'd be interested in going for future event you have." Hell, that's totally a lie.

"I'm glad, and I'm in hope for your daughter to get along with mine, too." He said, smiling before turning down to Emi.

"Right." I replied, before adding. "Well, we should be going now." He chuckled.

"Haha, of course. Emi is probably feeling really sleepy."

"... Yep."

'Without phones is difficult for me.'

Maybe I'm just a loser who's addicted to reading manhwa on my phone. Then proceed to talk about how boring my life is.

Maybe..., and maybe before my phone decided to fall in the rice cooker.

Phones are important in my generation, but this? I don't think phones have even been invented yet.

'a depress teenager girl in an old man's body.'

Like Deezcord users... But I use Deezcord.

Hmm...

Consider myself as one.

"Hmm..."

Just as I was about to speak, a sudden bump was heard from my forehead. It sounded hard, leaving a visible mark.

"Ow...! Ugh..." I hissed, rubbing my forehead.

Even for a bump, I'm already having a headache...

I looked around to see Emi was staring beside me, quietly.

"Does it hurt?" She asked,

Huh? Just like that?

"Uhm... No." I said, glancing at her while I brushed off the dirt stained. "But it sounded hurt. Are you sure, Sir Endrick?"

Can't lie, it does sound as if my forehead had just unlocked a mark.

"No need to worry about me too much, Emi. See?" I replied, slipping my hand away from my forehead for her, a thin smile on my face.

"... Oh."

I almost let out a giggle at her response. "Let's not waste any time." I said, walking down the path. She nodded and followed.

Along the path until, she remained following behind. Glancing at the ground as she quietly mumbled something at random times.

I'm more concerned if the dirt had made an impact to my forehead. No—I'm more concerned in my words and actions.

It doesn't feel like his. Bland... Plain... Ugly.

"O' God of Freedom!" I pray, but I won't say it out loud.

I can't imagine how many times I could pray to that name. Wouldn't they give me what I want? Is what I honestly thought it would be.

"Sir Endrick?" Star Endrick! Correct you for that.

"Yes?" I said, turning to her. "..." She shrugged it off and turned away to lay on the couch instead.

... What?

I swear she called me for a reason, and I bet on 100 dollars to the viewpoint!

"What's the matter, Emi?" I asked, walking up to her and crouched down to look at her clearly.

"... Nothing."

Typical answer, I respect that. Wonder how long you will be so nonchalant until then.

"Do you want to sleep with me?" I asked, also hoping for a 'no' as an answer. Unfortunately, no. "...Okay."

Okay is a neutral response. Thus, from my words. I'd have to bring her with me.

How unfortunate.

"How about you change?" Asking that at a child sounds so off.

I'm not trying to sound like a pdf.

Am I a pdf now?

Definitely not, am I? I'm a teenager after all!

"Okay." She said, watching as I nod and walked up to take some clothe.

Taking out a white dress with a peter pans collar dress. I wasn't quite sure, instead I turned to her. "Is this okay?"

She stayed quiet, looking at the dress for a while before nodding as a response.

"Great, hopefully it makes you comfortable."

Rethinking back again, that doesn't sound any better as the other...

My steps went closer to her as I hand her the dress. "Go change at the bathroom" That's not any better either, just harsh. Should've changed the first two words.

She nodded, going out of the room. The moment she had stepped out, I frowned, rethinking my life choices.

"What the hell am I talking about?"

"Seriously, who says things like that to a child? I'm a pdf now."

I should just off myself at this point.

Misfortune or unfortunate, I should need to see just how attractive this appearance is. With it, I could probably go out without a problem, right?

No girls' problem? Awesome.

"Eww... That sounds like a pick-me." Maybe I should stop talking.

I'm traumatized by that.

"Sir?" A familiar young voice coming from the door, I just know it is Emi. "Oh, you're back."

"Is it comfortable?" I asked, giving a smile. She nodded.

"That's good to hear."

She began to sit up on the bed, she looked up at me and gestured me.

What's that hand gesture? Oh.

I sat on the bed beside her. "Why don't you sleep at the couch?" I asked. She shook her head and lowered.

Muttering. "I'm scared."

Eh? "Seriously?" I laughed. Seeing me laugh, it is as if I had mocked her for being scared.

"You don't have to be scared." I said, ruffling her hair. She seemed unconvinced.

"I don't like being alone." She said, glancing up at me. My smile slowly faded.

"Too personal."

"Being scared is another way to show you're weak. Do you really want to get stepped on?"

"..." She didn't answer.

She was a coward anyways. Scaredy-cat. She wouldn't admit it, but she would let it.

I haven't changed a bit from the past, and I'm aware of that.

She laid down, glancing at the wall. For a moment her eyes were still opened, flickering.

Without a noise, I sneaked out to admire the sky.

"Shh..." I whispered, bringing my finger up as I looked back. I swear I heard footsteps from behind, is it a ghost?

Wait what?

"Ghost?!" I freaked out, closing my mouth with my hands as I looked around my surroundings.

I can clearly hear my heartbeat going faster as I looked before my hands slowly slipped off.

With the power of light...! I continued to walk down the hall.

"How big is this house?" I questioned. There were doors down the hall, and the rooms seemed to be unused.

If I could describe it well... It is similar to one of those horror movies?

And I'm prepared to die in the hands of another.

For sure...
