Chapter 171 - Chapter 165 the first kick

The 8th month was nearing its end, and the "Black Box" had settled into a heavy, watchful silence. The shopping spree was over, the nursery was a fortress of silk and technology, and Jay was now confined to the grand master suite. The air was thick with the scent of antiseptic and expensive roses, a constant reminder of the thin line we were walking.

POV: Keifer (Mark Keifer Watson)

It was 2:00 AM. The mansion was silent, save for the low hum of the medical monitors in the corner of our room. I hadn't slept properly in weeks. I sat on the edge of the bed, watching Jay sleep. She looked so small amidst the mountain of pillows, her face pale under the moonlight.

I reached out, my hand hovering over the swell of her stomach. I was terrified to touch her sometimes, afraid that my "Monster" strength would somehow aggravate the fragile state of her body.

Suddenly, I felt a sharp, distinct thump against my palm.

My heart stopped. I froze, my breath hitching in my throat. I waited, and then—there it was again. A powerful, rhythmic push from the inside.

"Wifey..." I whispered, my voice cracking.

POV: Jay (Jasper Jean Mariano)

I woke up to the feeling of Keifer's hand trembling against me. I opened my eyes to see my "Monster" husband looking at my stomach as if he were witnessing the creation of the universe.

"She's awake, hubby," I murmured, covering his hand with mine.

Astraea wasn't just fluttering anymore; she was making her presence known. It was a strong, purposeful kick, followed by a roll that made my entire stomach shift.

"It's her first real one," Keifer breathed, his eyes wide and shimmering. "She's... she's so strong, Jay. I can feel her foot."

"She's a Watson," I laughed softly, though a wince followed as Astraea decided my ribs were a good place to practice her ninja moves. "She's impatient. She wants to see the chaos she's causing."

The Midnight Alert

Keifer, being the over-prepared protector he is, didn't just enjoy the moment. He pressed the intercom. "Everyone. Main suite. Now."

"Keifer, it's 2 AM!" I protested, but it was too late.

Within three minutes, the "Family Security Council" was burst into the room.

Alexander was carried in by Keigan, rubbing his sleepy eyes.

Ci n arrived with a stethoscope, looking ready for an emergency.

Aries (Horoscope) was wearing a silk robe with stars on it, clutching a moonstone.

Percy (Blue Eyes), Keiran, and Kuya Angelo were right behind them, followed by Section E who looked like they had been sleeping in their suits.

"What is it? Is she hemorrhaging?" Ci n demanded, his face pale.

No," Keifer said, his voice unusually thick with emotion. "She's kicking. Properly."

The Family Connection

The tension in the room snapped, replaced by a wave of relief so strong it was almost physical. One by one, they approached the bed like they were approaching an altar.

"Let me feel!" Alexander scrambled onto the bed, placing his small hand next to his father's. Astraea gave a massive shove right under his palm. "WHOA! Mumma! She's doing a karate chop! She's a ninja like me!"

Ma (Jeena) and Pa Pa (Jasper) stood by the headboard, tears in their eyes. "That's my granddaughter," Pa Pa whispered. "She's got the Mariano fire."

Keiran and Keigan took turns, their faces lighting up with goofy grins. "She's definitely a Watson," Keiran laughed. "She's already trying to kick her way out of the lockdown."

Then came Section E. Percy (Blue Eyes) put his hand down tentatively. When Astraea kicked him, he jumped back. "Whoa! She's got a mean left hook. Jay, you sure you aren't carrying a heavyweight boxer?"

Aries moved in with his crystal, but Jay pointed a finger at him. "If you try to 'tune' her kick, Aries, I'll kick you myself."

"I'm just sensing her aura!" Aries defended. "It's... it's violet! The color of royalty and protection!"

Ci n put his hand down last, not as a doctor, but as my best friend. He felt the strength of the movement and his eyes met mine. He didn't say it, but I saw the unspoken thought: She's ready. Now we just have to make sure her mother survives the arrival.

The Quiet Vow

After the chaos died down and the family was ushered back to bed by Kuya Angelo, the room returned to its moonlit silence. Alexander had fallen asleep at the foot of our bed, his hand still resting on my leg.

Keifer laid back down, pulling me into his arms. He kept his hand on my stomach, feeling every little movement of Astraea Solene.

"She's fighting for you, wifey," he whispered against my neck. "I can feel it. She's telling us she's not going anywhere without you."

"We're a team, hubby," I whispered back, my eyes closing as the exhaustion of the 8th month took over. "Me, you, and the Star."

As I drifted off, I felt one last, gentle tap from inside—a secret code between mother and daughter. It was the first time since the "Critical" diagnosis that I felt true, unshakable hope.
