Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Simple Folk Customs

Iruma and Shesi, on the other hand, walked by, a little cold sweat trickling down their backs.

Shesi couldn't help but quip, "What a simple and unadorned Demon World! It's almost like Gotham."

Iruma was clearly accustomed to his brother's occasional nonsensical remarks and paid no attention to Shesi's words.

Inside the auditorium, Iruma and Shesi sat together, and the seats around them were also filled with demons.

Demon A: "Hey, do you guys smell a really fragrant scent?"

Demon B: "Hmm, indeed? Where is that smell coming from?"

Shesi knew the best course of action was to remain silent, but he still spoke up.

"Perhaps I sprayed some perfume today?"

Shesi's words instantly attracted the attention of the two demons.

"Oh, so that's it."

But it seemed the two demons weren't interested in this topic. Instead, a female demon who hadn't spoken until then leaned over.

"Oh, classmate, your perfume smells so good! What brand is it?" the female demon asked.

"Ah, this... I guess it's Stankon."

"Huh? What brand? I've never heard of it."

...The auditorium was a buzz of chatter, but the topics were all things like "I wish we could be in the same class!" or "That game I played yesterday was so much fun." This made Shesi suddenly feel like he was back in college.

"Silence!" Suddenly, a fierce-looking person walked onto the stage and spoke, and the previously noisy auditorium immediately fell silent.

Another Teacher, dressed in the same uniform, walked forward and said,

"Thank you for waiting. At 6:06 AM, the Babirus Demon School entrance ceremony officially begins."

The person next to him immediately shouted,

"Please rise and sing the school anthem!"

Shesi suddenly felt like laughing. They couldn't possibly be bringing human world customs here, could they? But very quickly, Shesi couldn't laugh anymore, and neither could Iruma.

"Humans are all our food.

Devour their souls, blood, and flesh.

Under the sound of black wings flapping,

Tremble, cowards, for we are demons.

In the song flowing from our red beaks,

Join us, weaklings, for we are demons.

…"

Iruma, Shesi: "...It's better to be safe. We must never let the demons know we are humans..." "Next, the Chairman's greeting."

A burst of cheers erupted from below the stage.

"Wow, the next Demon King!"

Before Iruma and Shesi could recover from the school anthem, a very familiar voice came through the loudspeakers.

"Iruma-kun, Shesi, it's me, Grandpa!"

The demons nearby immediately looked surprised.

"Iruma? She Si? The Chairman's grandsons?"

"That's right! My grandsons have also enrolled. He's really cute, really cute!" Sullivan continued to show off his grandsons on stage, while Shesi and Iruma felt a bit reluctant to look up, as if a little embarrassed... If anyone had looked at their feet, they would have surely cried out, "Wow! A three-bedroom, one-living room! Wow! Four dishes and one soup! Wow! Golden... No, wrong channel."

"And this is the first photo I took with my grandsons!" With that, Sullivan even took out the photo he had just taken for everyone to see.

"Wait, if anyone wants it, I can send it to you!"

Shesi and Iruma bowed their heads, their faces dark.

Who would want something like that?!

"Alright, I've said what I needed to say. Bye-bye!" Sullivan directly left the stage and disappeared.

"Next, we invite the freshman representative to deliver a speech," the person above continued.

Below, it started to get a bit noisy.

"Freshman representative? Is it that one? I heard he got a perfect score. Is it true or false? A genius?

"Freshman representative, Asmodeus."

Hearing this name, the girls in the audience all looked at Asmodeus, who was passing by them, their faces slightly flushed.

"Ah! So handsome!"

"He's the legendary one?"

"Come curse me!"

One of the one-eyed demons said, though not meaning it.

"Barely acceptable."

Just as Asmodeus was about to reach the stage, the host above suddenly said,

"There's a change. The one to come up is the special student, Iruma-kun."

Iruma looked at Shesi with a deadpan expression.

Shesi looked at the stage and suddenly saw Sullivan behind the podium, giving them a thumbs-up with a camera in hand.

Shesi sighed at this.

"Can you do it? Or should I go instead?" Shesi asked Iruma beside him.

"Can I, Brother?" Suddenly, Iruma remembered that it seemed ever since he was born, his brother had always stood in front of him. No, this time it's so dangerous! I can't let my brother go!

"No, I'll go!" Iruma's eyes were as determined as if he were joining a party. Shesi looked at Iruma with some surprise. Shesi still remembered that this part of the plot wasn't very dangerous; it was just that if one word of the forbidden spell was mispronounced, one's limbs would explode... No, it seemed a bit dangerous, but his younger brother seemed to be able to recite it safely even without knowing the consequences.

While Shesi was still reminiscing, Iruma had already walked onto the stage, ready to face death.

Standing on the stage, Iruma looked at the many demons below and suddenly started to get nervous again, his body trembling slightly. Suddenly, Iruma looked in Shesi's direction and saw his brother looking at him with a slight smile.

I can definitely do it! Iruma was cheering himself on, while Shesi, on the other hand, was starting to sweat a little... Don't look at me, little brother. I don't know either... How would I know where your manuscript came from... I only remember a little bit of that plot! Shesi could only smile and look at him.

Suddenly, the photo of Sullivan showing off his grandsons floated in front of Iruma. On the back of the photo, there was a passage of text:

"To prevent you from falling during your school life, I give you these words—Grandpa."

Iruma thought it was a manuscript Sullivan had prepared for him, so he read it aloud.

The moment Iruma opened his mouth, the demons' hair stood on end, and they dared not make a sound. Even the Teachers on stage looked at Iruma in shock, while Sullivan backstage was still recording.

After Iruma finished reading, a thunderous cheer erupted from the audience.

"Is it true or false? That's amazing!"

"Incredible, he actually finished saying it!"

The host also came to Iruma's side.

"You! How could you casually chant a forbidden spell! This is taboo! Even if you mispronounce one sound or one word, you'll self-destruct and die!"

"Eh!!!!" Iruma looked at the host in shock.

"How dangerous and crazy! It's so exciting!" The host gave Iruma a thumbs-up.

"Everyone says that anyone who can chant that, besides being an idiot, is a demon who's tired of worldly life!"

Iruma reacted.

"May I ask, what effect does chanting this have?"

"Successfully chanting it means you won't have to worry about falling today!" the host said.

Hearing this, Shesi below also quipped,

"How pathetic... when mispronouncing just one word would have such severe consequences."
