Chapter 4 - "When Silence Started Hurting "

The uniform layed folded in her arms and before she knew it, her mind drifted back to the past...

 ******

Julia woke up from sleep at around 9:00pm. She hurriedly grabbed her phone to check if "he" was online.

He was.

A smile spread across her face as she typed with excitement.

"Hey softy🙂"

She waited for hours for him to reply.

But nothing.

That was unlike him and so she texted again.

"Are you asleep😴?"

Still yet, nothing.

Two ticks.

Online.

Her chest tightened, why is he online and not replying? worry crept in but she pushed the thought away with the hope that she will see his text in the morning and slowly, she eventually fell asleep.

**Next Morning....**

Julia woke up with the happy thought of seeing his text saying

"Morning sunshine, sorry I slept off"

That thought alone made her reminisce about their multiple chats, the sweet names, the late night texts, the teasing and so she immediately grabbed her phone and locked into their chats.

Nothing.

Julia didn't know how to feel, whether hurt or sad or what, she didn't know but still yet, she pushed it aside again.

Julia's POV...

Hey, it's strange of him to not reply, he usually did but now something is off.

Is he alright or did something happen to him?

I'll check up on him in school.

With that, she woke up her friends for them to prepare for school. They all went out, had their bath and came back to get dress while discussing.

Later on, all of them went to the refertory, had their breakfast and went to class.

On their way to class, she saw him among his friends laughing loudly, careless and free as if nothing bothered him.

Their eyes met.

She had a smiley face on and was about approaching until-

He looked away.

Just like that.

No smile.

No greetings.

Like she wasn't there.

She kept walking, her chest feeling strangely tight. She tried to remind herself of the quiet happy moments they shared, the hugs he gave her, the late night texts.

But for the first time, those memories didn't comfort her.

They confused her.

And somehow, questions began forming in her head- soft, frightening and impossible to ignore.

Why did he only she her when nobody was watching?.....

She didn't call it pain.

She didn't even call it hurt.

She just told herself to wait.
